No two people can learn in the same way or at the
same speed, yet students are put in classes of 30 across
the country and are expected to learn as a group. lVlany
suffer from this system. At Lowry, the faculty tries to
give the students an extra break with individual help
whenever possible. Almost every day teachers give extra
tutoring or make-up tests before or after school. Two
instructors give up their preparation periods to teach a
class of two students each. Several classes are
conducted in an entirely individualized manner. All this
extra effort from the faculty hopefully will help many
more students realize their ambitions to the fullest.

What would we do without them! Slaving in the
hot kitchen all morning, the cooks prepare meals
day in and day out to feed the hungry mobs. For
many, lunch is the favorite part of the day and, at
the sound ofthe bell, it seems thousands
stampede to greedily gobble the gourmet
goulashes which they prepare. Let's not forget the
janitors vvho keep our school clean. Well, at least
they try, and by four o'clock they find their job
most exhausting. ALHS appreciates their efforts.
The cooks from left to right are Alice Dolan,
Marge Spero, and lVlary Ann Echevarria. Belovv,
the custodians from left to right are Claudio

Lowry Gymnasts showed much promise at the
beginning of workouts this year and carried it
through the entire season. Their duel meets
brought home many inidividual honors as well
as team victories. A few serious injuries at the
beginning of the season reduced the power of
a large team but enhanced the strength of the
individual members. Denice Burrow
consistently placed in at least two events each
meet and was voted 'llVlost Improved
Gymnast". Betty Glinsmann was injured early
in the season, Cheryl Frazier and Lisa Bell
were voted l'lVlost Dedicated Gymnasts".
Itxaso Obieta served as manager for the team,
Tauna Johnstone proved our most consistent
gymnast. Her scores always ngured into team
points and her consistency made her one of
our top competitors. Mickey Bidart was voted
lllVlost Inspirational" on our team. Her
dedication, example, and influence on her
teammates made our year a happy one and
brought us closer together as a team. Cindy
Bidart is our only Senior as well as our "Best

over Nevada as one of the top competitors in
the state.

Lowry's Varsity Volleyball team had
4 record and placing second in the
Northern Division zone tournament. On
February 19th they traveled to
Yerington for the state tournament.
They defeated Stewart but fell to
undefeated Incline in their second
round of play. Lowry certainly hadn't
seen such a great volleyball team in a
long time and it is not likely that there
will be another one like it within the
next few years.

This year Winnada started early! Late in August,
Winnada advisor, Miss Butcher, and co-editors Anita
lVlariluch and Lisa Thompson attended a yearbook
workshop in Caldwell, Idaho, in an attempt to create
the best Winnada ever. An unusually talented and
efficient Winnada staff toiled laboriously to produce
what you novv hold in your trembling fingers: a
literary classic second only to ROOTS featuring 32
color pages, senior babies and you. The staff also,
commendably, raised seven thousand dollars in an
attempt to make your book a little bit cheaper.

HILLBILLY HIGH JINKS and IT'S COLD IN THEM
THAR HILLS were the nrst two productions in October.
The drama club then began work on FROSTY, THE
SNOWMAN, a musical for children which was to be
produced in December. After receiving inspiration from
a field trip to Sparks High School's production of ONE
FLEW OVER THE CUCKOO'S NEST, they returned to
begin work on their 3-act comedy entitled REST
ASSURED which was presented in March. This play
centered around a man's dream of his death and his
observations of his family's reactions to his death.
Drama members have been very busy this year in an
effort to refurbish the props, sets, and costumes for
their plays. If all goes well, plans for a major production
next year will be realized.

The Buck's Bullsheet was originally planned as a
sports newsletter, but it turned out that the only ones
interested in sports were on the staff. So the staff
revised the format to include all aspects of student life
with the next issue. The student reaction was much
more favorable and sales were highly successful. The
student body of L.H.S. hopes they will stick with it next
year.

FOOTBALL
The powder puff football game was a bigger
success this year than last. After only a few days
of practice, the girls suited up and were ready to
go. The senior-freshman team scored a touchdown
in the first quarter but missed the extra point.
After a bad hrst half, the junior-sophomore team
came back to score a touchdown 84 two extra
points. The senior-frosh team put on a good fight
but the junior-soph team managed to hold their
ground til the end for a hard won victory. This was
the first girls' football game played under our
schooI's new lights. All the girls worked hard and
had a really good time.

Homecoming festivities took place in the week
of October ll-15, 1976. Throughout the week,
classes, clubs, and other school organizations
ambitiously prepared for the parade, skit night,
and big game. The skits all proved very
enjoyable to a large crowd of Lowry fans. The
queen's coronation is always a highlight ofthe
night. Last year's homecoming queen Loretta
Vesco crowned Tama Hay as the 1976
homecoming queen. Following the skits, was the
snake dance which began at the courthouse and
ended at Nixon park. This exciting week, so full
of total school spirit paid off well the next
night under the new lights when the Buckaroos
took on the White Pine Bobcats and creamed
them 66-0. The 1976 football homecoming was
undoubtedly one of the very best for Lowry.
