Lieutenant Commander Glen W. SMITH was commissioned an Ensign in the United States Navy upon graduation from the U. S. Naval Academy on 4 June 1961. His first assignment was Damage Control Assistant aboard the USS PERRY CDD-8445 from June, 1961, through December of 1962. Upon completion of his first tour of duty, he was assigned as a student at the Nuclear Power School, Bainbridge, Maryland from January 1963 to June 1963. Upon completion of studies at Nuclear Power School, he was assigned as a student at NPTU, West Milton Site, New York, for the period beginning July 1963, until com- pletion of his studies in December 1963. From January 1964, through July 1965, Lieutenant Commander SMITH remained as an instructor on the staff, NPTU, West Milton,Site, New York. Beginning in September 1965, Lieutenant Commander SMITH was assigned as a stu- dent at U. S. Naval Destroyer School, New- port, Rhode Island. Upon completion of his studies in March 1966, he reported aboard the USS DAVIS CDD-9373. From May 1966, through December 1967, he served as Operations Officer and Navigator on the DAVIS. From January 1968, through June 1969, Lieutenant Commander SMITH served as an instructor at the U. S. Naval Destroyer School, teaching antisub- marine warfare and tactical maneuvering. Returning once again to the field ofNuclear Power. LieutenantCommander SMITH re- ported aboard the cruiser USS LONG BEACH CCGN-93 in August 1969. He served as Main Propulsion Assistant until August 1971. Executive Officer Lieutenant Commander SMITH comes to the USS ALBERT DA VID CDE-10503 with a broad background in the Cruiser-Destroyer Force. Utilizing his past experience and knowledge, he has assumed the duties as Executive Officer on the Long Beach based Destroyer Escort. Lieutenant Commander SMITH is a native of Ketchikan, Alaska. He received his high school education at Ketchikan High School. He is married to the former Betty Ellen DOWNING of Saratoga Springs, New York. They have two children.
