This year 75 upperclassman joined this organization, thus making them eligible for open try-outs before any play was cast. MARY GULLEDGE CLUB The Mary Gulledge Club is an organization of students whose future plans include teach- ing. The club meets regularly to discuss various phases of this profession. RED CROSS COUNCIL A new ogranization in Albemarle High School, the Red Cross Council has undertaken many worthwhile projects. Two of the council ' s most outstanding achievements were raising $150.00 for a chest to send overseas and raising enough money to send a Red Cross repre- sentative to a Leadership Training Center in Green Cove, N. C. The council is made up of Homeroom Representatives and officers elected by them. The vocational students attend school in the morning -and work in the afternoon. That de- feat was an upset at the hands of Kanna- polis ' s " Little Wonders " , who captured the South Piedmont Conference title. In the opening game the Bulldogs ran over Winecoff easily, 27-0. The Bulldogs received their only set- back, a 19-14 decision at Kannapolis. Back in the winning column the Bulldogs downed Lexington 19-0. Journeying to Winston-Salem the Bull- dogs sneaked past tough Children ' s Home in a 7-0 thriller. The defending conference champs, the Wilkes Central " Eagles " , fell before the improving Bulldogs 13-7. The Bulldogs avenged last years only de- feat by whipping Monroe 28-0. Mooresville, the next victim, fell before the strong Bulldogs 34-6. The Bulldogs unleashed a strong air at- tack to down Myers Park in the Home- coming tilt 32-6. The Concord " Spiders " were sent home with a 26-6 defeat at the hands of the Bulldogs. The Bulldogs sneaked past Asheboro ' s " Blue Comets " 21-19 in an offensive thriller. At the end of the season the following eight Bulldogs had played their last game: Co-Captains David Bruton and James Gib- son, Gene Snuggs, Ray Gene Smith, Claud Lawhon, Bill Huckabee, Jerry Troywick, and extra point kicker, Larry Bowers, who put 23 out of 31 through the uprights. Each year the club sponsors different events to raise money to buy sweaters for the members. The sweaters are navy blue with a white letter.
