Ed Hill Art Terry Larsen Choir P.E., AND THE ARTS Mr. Sandy Shafer, commonly called the Hepcot by his students, is new this year to the Albany High School music scene. He comes to us from Castro Valley where he taught music to elementary school children. He says that he loves being here, teaching at the higher level. Shafer has three goals for his program, and his students. The first thing he lnslsts on is that all hls students do o bang up job when they perform, not only so the program continues to look good, but so the kids have some pride in themselves, and their work. He maintains that If you work at something, you have to get results. Secondly, he wants the students to come out of the program knowing something about music, the different periods, and what they like. Last but not least, he hopes that everyone enjoys the music, as he enjoys it so much himself. He is really enthusiastic about the music he teaches, and about the students. He says that they are all very talented and hard working, and that his classes are a great learning experience, not just for the kids! ,.,,.l's,-.s.. . xx . ' Kermit Bonkson P.E. Terry Larsen has sung ln mony places all over the world. He has taught elementary muslc to children in Alaska, and is now at AHS to teach two periods of Choir. He was a member of the choral ensemble called Chontecleer, o group of ten men who toured the world singing in cathedrals, local churches, and small towns. He continues to sing with the group today, whenever they are in town. He also has a part time job singing with the San Francisco Symphony. He is enjoying being here at AHS, and living in California. He soys that he sees and feels a lot of community support for the school and the kids, as well as a lot of splrlt In everyone. Choirs are my Iife, he says, and he would very much like to stay here and build up the choral arts department of the school to its full potential. For now, Terry Lorsen is looking for a happy home life, and a place to keep a dog, and would like to continue to build the choral program at the High School.

SOCIAL STUDIES, Dave De Hart is one of many teachers here at AHS that have attended UC Berkeley. A Burbank, California native, he came to Berkeley, and was quickly awakened to the world outside of his conservative High School. He found himself ignorant and uneducated about current events, the Vietnam War, and the radical protests of the times. This ig- norance was one ofthe reasons he decided to become a teacher, so that students would be aware of the world, people and events around them. De Hart is known for his field trips. He takes Juniors In his US History classes to the Oakland Museum, and to Alcatraz Island. Hls Seniors In US Government take a trip to Court in the Spring. This year he led a group of students on the Close-Up Program in Washington D.C. .sw-4 Genie Miller History Hlstory Charlie Clark itxx Phil Wanlln Debbie Wanlin History P.E. Once he even taught basic math and english on an aircraft carrlerl He and his print classes are responsible for much of the printed material in the school district, and virtually all things printed forthe school. They print the school newspaper, the Principal's newsletter, and run the Xerox machine for everyone. Friday afternoons find Thomsen rushing off to go sailing, and to forget the problems of the week, and relax! K .. E V, ,xt A , , HN . 1 H 4, I . - K, K ,,,.. IU, F..-. f..:n-.'
