Brest, a quiet town provided us with a brief respite from the busy European cities we had just left. Its location on the picturesque Brittany coastline with its peaceful, protected harbor was a relief for weary sailors. Brest's remaining for- tifications, combined with the huge concrete sub- marine pens within walking distance of ALBANY'S berth, served to remind us of Brest's historical significance. Our days were spent enjoying the fine French food and drink, peaceful walks through the town, and tours of the rugged coastline and rolling country-side.
