1975 EL ALARADO As editors of this annual, we would like to thank the staff for the real team effort this book represents, and a special thanks to Mrs. Janice Watkins for her help and patience. fwfwaf 527950 5' cl G+u. dau Table 0fC0nlents Activities .. ...I-47 Clubs ......... ...48-59 Classes-Stab' . . . . .60-98 Sports ...... . . .99-144 Advertising . . .145-172 Index .... . .1724-176 1974-75 has come and gone, and we hope our annual will help you remember the memories of this year. For seniors, it's the turning point of life, for juniors, sophomores, and freshmen, it's another chapter in life. Many things were new this year, including the freshman class. Many new teachers were here fsome of whom just graduated from junior highj. School lunch prog'ram's prices went up, while lunch quality remained the same. For the second year in a row, the basketball team went to state, as did Darrell Yohn in heavyweight wrestling. Forensics and thespians saw increasing interest and participation, and golfers made All-American. School dances and functions were well-attended. On the national scene, America witnessed the resignation of a president, the first such event in the nation's history. America's two top officials had not been elected by popular vote, being confirmed only by congress. Watergate trials ended, with and Arab embargo of oil came high prices and the economy fell into recession. But in Alamosa, dragging Main remained the "in" thing to do. In looking through this book, we hope the memories of fun, youth, work, learning, advancements, and even some disappointments will be brought back. We hope you enjoy looking through this book as much as we enjoyed putting it together. 'W a Wg V2 fp HY, x s.. v GM , Ja. f - ,Q V . FHA is an organization for anyone who has taken a home economics course. The main pur- poses of FHA are to provide opportunities for self development, preparation for family and com- munity livingg and to develop interest in home economics, home economic careers, and related occupations. Its main goal is to help youth as- sume their roles in society through home eco- nomics education in areas of personal growth, family life, vocational preparation and communi- ty involvement. Some of this year's achievements were making a quilt to donate to the Nursing Home and attend the state FHA convention in Ft. Collins. L. Student Council this year tried "something new" and achieved a lot of success because of it. This year's Head Boy, Paul Weaver, and Head Girl, Pam Wuckert were joined by each class officers, plus representatives of the major clubs and groups, to create a much smaller, but more effective Student Council for 1974-75. The main purpose of Student Council is to promote citizenship, scholarship, leadership, human relations and cultural value in our high schools. The group sponsored or participated in many activities this year. Some of them were: Homecoming, a Christmas party for the elderly folk in the community, a three-day student exchange with league schools, a leadership workshop in Colorado Springs, a 50's day and dance, selling milk and donuts before school, plus implementing the buying of an activitiy van for small groups by the district. These students proved that getting involved does accomplish things. 53 N., s e ferrfnmasfffragezzznf-fi, wraefewfsvzwwxw ,nv . if: ? There were, however, many shining individual performances, and the entire team looked good on frequent occasions, only to get burned on the long plays. Both offense and defense were inconsistent at times, and needed to put together an entire game. Coaching problems as well as inexperience plagued the team, with Coach Orren Wright being replaced midyear by Coach Ron Johannes. The team never gave up, and this fact is one of which to be proud.
