To you, the student body, we, the staff, have
tried to present an annual which represents all
phases of school life and tradition. May it, in
future years, bring back priceless memories,
and stand as a lasting symbol of one of the
best years of Alamo High's history. To our
departing Seniors We say farewell, and we
can rest assured that the fine old tradition will
be carried out for many years to come!

Some of these pictures were taken
without the persons involved know-
ing it. They're just to show what is
going on around in our halls and
other places in the school.
Maybe you can find yourself in
one of these pictures. If you do we
hope that you like itg you might
want to show it to your grandchil-
dren.

The mathematics department of Alamogordo High School has
been of the opinion that the best way to attract students into the
department is to present a program that will fill all the needs of
all the students who enter our school. Many new changes have
been made in the curriculum.
The mathematics department has approximately 70 per cent of
the total student body enrolled in various areas during this school
year.
The department has taken a leading position within the state of
New Mexico in introducing into its curriculum new and compre-
hensive course in all areas. The department has been one of the
leaders in introducing a course in combined geometry fplane and
solidj into the high school curriculum in New Mexico and the
nation. During the 1958-59 school year, the department will be
using a text devised with the mathematics program of A.H.S. A
A new course, designated as Algebra 5, has also been. added
for high school seniors in their last semester. It consists of and
introduction to college mathematics. The department is planning-L
other changes to meet the changing needs of its students. The de-
partment thinks that the challenge of the future can be ,met by
challenging the students of today.

Our science department has been enlarged a great deal this year.
Two teachers, lVlr. Johnson and lVlr. House, joined our school sys-
tem. A new lecture room for biology has also been added. Very
expensive equipment has been put in the new Physics lab.
Some students enter the Science Fair at the end of the school year,
which gives prizes for the best projects.

There are many different things included in Practical Arts such as
Art, Homemaking, Agriculture, Shop, and Auto Mechanics. These sub-
jects give actual practice in the different areas. Facilities provide students
with first-hand experience in working situations.
The Homemaking and the Shop departments have a nice display in the

Our music department is one of the best in the state. Some
of the new faces in the department are Mr. Bouma and lVlr.
Otto. Various activities included All-State in January. The
band and orchestra tryouts were held in December at District
Clinic, but the chorus tryouts were in October. The District
Festival was in March. Of course the band went to several
out-of-town football games.
November the nineteenth was the Operetta. Then in De-
cember the band held its '4Pops', concert and the chorus and
orchestra had their Christmas concert. ln February the L'Win-
ter" concerts, for the band, chorus and orchestra, were held.
To practice for Festival, there were a solo and ensemble, and
later a concert. To complete a busy year, the band's Spring
concert was in April.
