For while we are looking forward to beginning our civilian life, we have many fond memories of the twelve years we have shared together. We, who for the past eight years, had been slowly climbing in rank began our career as sergeants in H55 by electing to the staff of offtters: lan Byrd, President: George Nelson, Vit e-President: Joanne Wright, secretary and Treasurer: Janut Parlow, Reporter: Lharlotte Ldwards, student Council. We chose Generals Mary Ruth and Hollis Thompson as our sponsors. Llur superiors be- gan to sit up and rake notice when the Junior girls' basketball team fmain string entirely Sergeantsl racked up a record of no defeats. We also had two officers in K. P. IF. li, A. 5. Charlotte Edwards, one of our platoon won the honor of being alternate to the queen of our base. In 19-56-57 our rank was finally changed to Second Lieutenant. We started things off in an official manner by electing officers. They were: Dewitt Colvett, President: Ray Ran- dolph, Vice President: Jean Prather, Secre- tary: Louva Avery, Treasurer: Jan Byrd, Re- porter: Charlotte Edwards, Student Council. Generals Helen Conyers and Harold Pierce were chosen as our sponsors for the next three years. This year we had nine people elected to the Department of Intelligence llieta Clubj an organization for those who performed ser- vices beyond the call of duty, We had two officers in the K, P. iF. H. A. J and Lieutenants Julia Strange and Eleanor Conley receivedthe medal of State Degree for outstanding service in connection with this organization. Lieu- tenant Charlotte Edwards won the honor of be- ing queen of our base this year and Lieutenant Jean Prather was one of her maids. Jean was also a maid to the football queen. Lieuten- ant Gene Lewts was an officer in the Calfary IF. F. A. J. We were well represented in foot- ball, baseball, basketball and softball. Lieu- tenant Louva Avery was elected a member of one branch of the progaganda department rCheerleadersJ, In 1957-1958 we received another promo- tion. Ihis litre to first lieutenants. Our officers were: George Nelson, President: kay Randolph, Vice President: Jan Byrd, Secretary: Julia strange, Treasurer: Jere Ldwards, Reporter: Lanny Roberts and Jean Prather, Student Coun- cil. Julia Strange was a football maid and Jean Prather was our representative in the basketball queen's rate. We had two officers in the De- partment of Intelligence tfieta Clubj, We had three i. P, QF, H. AJ officers and Joyce Acor received her medal of State Degree. We also had one Calfary iF. F, AJ officer, We had six football players, six girls' basketball players, seven boys' basketball players: we had repre- sentatives in track, baseball and softball. We had a magazine drive to raise money for the annual First Lieutenantx and Captains banquet, This year we got our platoon rings tclass ringsl. In 195i-59 we reached the peak of our ca- reers by being promoted to Captains, This- year our courageous platoon accumulated a pile of medals. We started things off by elect- ing officers. They were: Ray Randolph, Presi- dent: Dewitt Colvett, Vice President: Judy Jones, Secretary: Janet Parlow, Treasurer: Louva Avery Reporter: Jan Byrd and Donnie Cooke, Student Council. This year we discovered that five of our buddies were poets when they each had a poem published in the National Anthology. Captain Donnie Cooke was sent on an impor- tant asstgnment to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in connection with the Calfary QF, F, A, 1, Captain Gene Lewis was elected President of the West Tennessee D. E. Three members of our platoon received positions in Propaganda Department 1Cheetleadersi. Our entire platoon was assigned to the ann- ual, The Fort, a top propaganda book. Others were also assigned to the Devils Crier, the of- ficial paper of the base and another part of the Propaganda Department. Again, we were well represented in basketball, football and softball. Jan Byrd and Janet Parlow were maids to the football queen. We had three officers in K. P. IF, H, A.l and Calfary KF, F. AJ also, Louva Avery represented us in the basketball queen's race. We were also well represented in the lj. S. O. Uiand and Chorusl. New we are back to the present and looking forward to our civilian life, lt will not be long until we receive our discharge papers fdiplomasJ.. Behind us we will leave the in- stitutions which have been the center of our lives for the past twelve years. We will, how- ever, take with us the profound effects which they have had upon us and the inspiration and guidance which our superior officers have given us. S. Government. But we didn't see him for he acci- dentally shut himself in and is now making his first trip into the outer realm of space. After playing Chet, the bartender, in our senior play, Terry Murphy has now opened a Cocktail Lounge tn down- town Miami. He also has a drink named after him called "Murphy's Valentine, " guaranteed to give Heart Failure, Jean Prather, not being able to make up her mind about one or the other of her boy friends, has become a confirmed Old Maid, As a matter-of-fact, she walks the streets of Miami with a sign saying, "Down with Meng it's a Woman's World. " While going through Hollywood, California, we find that some of our classmates have taken up in the exciting city of glamour and many marriages. Eugene Terry has become another Lon Chaney. He's the first "Monster" who doesn't have to use make-up, Brenda Emison and Peggy Wood, it's hard to see why, Two so sweet should be so shy: But your career has made the grade For famous fan-dancers you have made, Joe Uselton's sense of humor has paid off for htm. He's on one of the top Television shows of the day. He tells jokes to all the workmen while they sweep off the stage. ln New York, Ray Randolph has become a psychiatrist. He has many patients each day. But there's one he has a lot of trouble with. He can't figure out whether or not he's crazy. lt's himself. Linda and Kay the stage has called to you, You are two of the chosen few. On Broadway stages they are seen, With mop and broom they scrub and clean. Gene Bushart has a life of ease-Testing Mattresses for Beauty Rest. Julia Strange has gone into deeper fields with her flute. She is known as the "Pied Piper of Broadway. " Joyce Mayfield is a dealer in Diamond Rings. She got her start in High School with that first one she wore on her left hand. As we travel through Chicago, we find that lommy Crossnoe has lived up to his reputation in high school as a dare-devil on wheels, He now delivers groceries on a bicycle. Louva Avery and Eleanor Conley had their dream come true of living in a huge mansion with maids all around them. The only trouble is they're two of them. Stanley Johnson for ten years has played on professional football and basketball teams. He's going to retire next year and coach. This is because he's never played a game. 1 1'1" J 1 Z- ., 2, if 1 f 13" Q A ff W Donnie Locke has also taken the sports world as his career. llc is an important part of the Chicago Beats-- rhe waterhos, I see Jeanette lritte being voted as a cute girl has stayed with her, She was recently voted "Miss Sanitation Department of the Second Floor. As we traveled through West Tennessee, we find that Jere Edward's flabbergasted condition is improved over what it was in high school. He waved to us from the 2nd floor of Western State. In Memphis, Dewitt Colvett has now opened a Dance Studio. He has an awfully lot of customers, although they're mostly girls. Joyce Acor's knowledge of history and politics has finally helped her out. She has become Tennessee's first Lady Governor, Back in good ol' Crockett County, we find that a few of us have stayed on in this wonderful place. Judy Jones now owns half-interest in Laster's Service Station, She also has a lot of little gas pumpers run- ning around.
