To the Greeks it was a form of education. To us it means much more. In our. school song, "Blue and Goldf, it typifies the spirit of Alamo Heights. YVe hope that in years to come it will bring back memories of pleasant times and old acquaintances such as are recorded within these pages. The staff, therefore, feels that it is fitting to have chosen our school song, "Blue and Gold," as the theme of the 1950 Olmos. This year the Student Council at Alamo Heights has again succeeded in performing efficiently its two major functions, the promotion of more active student participa- tion and the administering of school improvements. The council was founded for the purpose of giving the student body a voice in its own affairs and helping pre- pare more students for our democratic way of life. The organization is composed of two representatives from each advisory, whose duty is to receive from the members of their advisory suggestions concerning all problems related to the school, and to present these problems to the council. The burden of the group is borne by the comrnittees which are designed to deal with those needs of the school that come under their jurisdiction. - -:,':2'-f-'W all .Q fiwlfied 61 Seauice Glad - .E OFFICERS .S ,.L., 5' yt 5 Pres. The unique plan of organization of the Latin Club, similar to the plan of Roman government, offers opportunities to serve and work. The main offices are these: two consuls, who alternate as presiding officer, a scribe, who keeps the record of the meet- ings and attends to the correspondence of the club, a quaestor, who looks after all financial matters and collects the club dues. These officers, selected by popular vote, are assisted by various other assistants appointed by the elected officers with the sponsor acting as advisor. The programs consist of interesting studies from Roman history and literature, in addition to plays, music, skits, and contests in both Latin and English. .fad rqmigaft Pres. Daphne Dalton V. Pres. CO-CAPTAINS Craig Spence Center 1 Rusty Crowley Back THE 1949 FOOTBALL SEASON IN REVIEW In the opening game of the season the Heights eleven went down fighting against the powerful Unicorns of New Braunfels, 33-6. Heights played Laredo to a 13-13 tie in its second game with the Crowley to Stein- man pass combination clicking for the touchdowns. The opening Conference game of the season found Alamo Heights swamping Lanier 27-13, behind the brilliant running of Crowley and Zachry. With Bobby Briggs running a kickoff 80 yards for a touchdown early in the fourth period Alamo Heights managed a 16-13 victory over Burbank. Teddy Ritchey pushed over two touchdowns and Rusty Crowley rolled up 134 yards rushing to defeat Edison 20-0. For the first time in five years the Tech Baffoloes stampeded the stubborn Mules, who went down before them 48-18. Avenging their last year,s defeat by Alamo Heights, the Brackenridge Eagles flew into the Mules and defeated them 45-0. Being badly hampered by injuries, the once feared Mules fell before the Saint Anthony Yellow Jackets 13-6. Fighting valiantly, the Heights eleven fell before mighty Iefferson, the future state champs, 51-0. Injuries limiting the Heights squad to 21 boys, the Mules were defeated by the Harlan- dale Indians 26-12. HEIGHTS OPPONENTS HEIGHTS OPPONENTS 6 N.
