,YO isfovy f Qi Let's glance back over the past twelve years and see what we can see. It's September first in the year 1938 and the mean widdow kids are off to school. Yes, off to the two little red school houses, Bancroft and Wash- ington Heights. The first grade teachers were Mrs. Coryl M. Clugston and Mrs. Stein. The students who have been in the community for the past twelve years are jo Anna Smith, George Wathen, both from Wash- ington Heights, and Dorris Cress, Frieda Fieselman and Patricia Hicks, from Bancroft. Under their teachers' guiding hands all passed to the second grade. That year Gloria Bedoar was a new addition. 1940: We wondered where our graduating class was. When we passed from the second to the third grade we also moved from the first room to the second. Miss Nock and Mrs. Dalkey were teachers at Washing- ton Heights and Bancroft, respectively. During this year, the four new students were Kenneth Billau and Beryle Crosby at Washington Heights and at Bancroft were Carl Metsker and Bertil Olson. The fourth grade was uneventful. 1942: The fifth grade teacher at Washington Heights was Mrs. Delia Keller, better known as Keller the Killer. While the students at Bancroft were having arithmetic and more arithmetic pounded into their brains by their teacher, Miss Byers. The new students were Barbara Tayson and Charles Quintrall. During the sixth grade, Marilyn Egan and Gene Gorrell came in to join our ranks. At Bancraft the students waited anxiously for the square dancing classes taught by their capable teacher, Mrs. Cox. Miss julia Stapleton was the teacher at Washington Heights. The seventh grade passed rapidly, with Mrs. Fritche and Mrs. Zimmerman as teachers at Bancroft and Wash- ington Heights, respectively. During our very eventful eighth grade, our teachers were Mrs. jessie 'Earman and Mrs. Mahaffey. Vale- dictorian and Salutatorian at Washington Heights were jo Anna Smith and iKenneth Billau, respectively. While at Bancroft they were Pat Hicks and C arles Quintrall. Barbara Conover and Bill Dohrman were the two new students at Bancroft during the ninth grade. Mrs. Murphy was their teacher. While the students of Wash- ington Heights joined 100 others at Lakewood High School. In 1947 we attended school for the first time in the new Alameda High School. Here students gathered from many neighbbring schools, and our Sophomore Class consisted of :, Gloria Bedoar, Nadine Blandford, Marilyn Egan, Dorris Cress, Beryle Crosby, Betty john- ston, Barbara Conover, joan Zigler, Criss Lounge, Frieda Fieselman, Gene Gorrell, Beverly Hough, Patricia Hicks, Don Abrahamson, Philip Kuhn, Richard Pogp, Jo Anna Smith, Barbara Tayson, George Wathen, C arles Quin- trall, Bertil Olson, Carl Metsker, Bob Harrier, Bill Dohr- man, Kenneth Billau, Bob Leiker, and urnell Tiefa. That year our sponsor was Mrs. Spirk. The second year in the new school we find that Nadine Blandford isn't with us, but to take her place, is Bertha Childers, Margie Pitcher, Joanna Elder, Dean Crews, and Harold Proctor. Our Junior sponsor was Mr. Crawford. We're Seniors now, the second class to graduate from Alameda High School. GENE GORRELL leaves her horsemanship ability to Fabian. BARBARA TAYSON leaves her accordian playing ability to Larry Robinson. BEVERLY HOUGH leaves her smile to Druscilla Vloods. FREIDA FIESELMAN leaves her golden locks to Vera Pallaro who has hair of her own. NADINE BLANDFORD leaves her small stature to Effie Oie. JO ANNE ELDER leaves her status as a Senior to any junior who passes. PAT HICKS leaves her 1 average to Orville Anderson. MARILYN EGAN leaves her quiet manner to Lorna' Anderson. HAROLD PROCT OR leaves his apathetic attitude to- ward the opposite sex to Clyde Cantral. ' VERLEE QUINN leaves her Missouri Heritage to any local Junior.
