Alameda High 2201 Encinal Ave. Alameda, Ca. 94501 “To me, distinctive means something that stands out or is above the rest, something to be noticed, admired, and in some cases respected. Our school, I feel, fits this descrip- tion perfectly with its variety of people, personalities and races. Our school is definitely distinctive, and I think that’s something we can all be proud of.” Mark Pope, Sen- ior.

Bebé So. Teo Ne oC eae Oe MAKES THE DIFFERENCE Distinction (n.) The act of distinguishing a difference; producing something which distinguishes one thing from another. By 1986, Alameda High School had arrived at the point of distinction, culminated by years of hard work and dedication. The students knew it, the faculty could feel it, and the community could see it. This new spirit seemed to illuminate the hallways, re- verberating from one end of the building to the other. “A good program always begins with the people,” said Dr. Gretchen Wheelwright, principal. ““They’re our greatest strength and distinguishing quality.” And so they were. People such as Tracy Wright, student body president. Tracy’s energy and enthusiasm helped raise school spirit and pride to its highest level in 1987, and encouraged universal involvement. “It’s important that each student feels like they belong here. I’m trying my hardest as president to include every type of person in our activities. AHS is a great place to be!!” Changes outside the classrooms also contributed to the “’87 attitude”. It was a clean, repaired campus which welcomed students back in September, and a feeling of school pride that kept it looking that way. Homecoming Week activities included “Keep your campus clean” relays, led by the senior court.
