UNIQUENESS ! re not talking any run-of-the- mill type hobbies, we’re talking major originality! So in honor of our students with a tiny touch of class, we devoted this section to the absolute origi- nals. Here’s just a sample of Alameda High’s unusu- al hobbyists. CAROL SETO A freshman at AHS, Carol Seto was no freshman when it came to waterskiing. Four years’ experience backed up her title as the National Girls’ Overall Champ. What were her thoughts about waterski- ing? “Barefoot waterskiing is a really trying exper- ience,” Carol replied. ““You’ve got to have a lot of balance, strength, and stamina.” With balance, strength, and stamina, there’s no doubt that Carol Seto will barefoot her way to success. JUNIOR TAAMU He sang faithfully in church choir, he sang again at AHS. Beach Boys oldies and soul here his main interests, but his inspiration was the King of Rock: Elvis Presley. Although there is no way Junior will ever serenade anybody, his favorite singing side- kicks were Seniors Eddie Fuentes and Frankie Esparza. SHAY BARGER A devoted trekkie and Spock fan, Shay had seen every Star Trek episode once, and one particular episode twenty-seven times! Shay had been in the Star Trek fan clan since last year and her hundreds of trekkie paraphernalia ranged from comic books to even a Cling-On dictionary. The Star Trek saga continues with trekkie Shay Barger. KRISTIN FAIRFEILD Presenting: Kristin Fairfeild, the versatility vir- tuosa. For Kristin, hobbies weren’t just something to fill up time, her pastimes were a way to express her feelings. “Accomplishment,” said Kristin. “There’s always something to learn and my hobbies have always been a part of me.” Although she had no plans to bring her hobbies into her future career, her pastimes promised to be an enriching part of her life. Spectacular sounds Junior Taamu and Frankie Esparza make a spectacular singing duo as they har- monize during choir. 24 Hobbies
