WHAT'S NEW? here were many differ- ent fads an fashions re- presented at Alameda High. Hanging suspend- ers, Esprit bags, scrunchy socks, Guess? jean jackets, shades, and rockers were only a few of these fads and fash- ions. Hanging suspenders? Students wore them with jeans or baggies, but they were almost never worn on their shoulders 12 Fads Fashion People carrying multi-colore sprit ags crowded the halls. ese oversize ags were usually loade with Mr. Dare’s U.S. history book, Mrs. Gal- lagher’s geometry book, or Mr. Brooks’ physiol- ogy book. Guess? No, not jeans, but jean jackets. From stone-washed to indigo, Guess? jackets were the latest fad. The fad that never faded was, you guessed it, shades. ‘“‘Everyone Headbangers - Chad Tucker and Justin Blok show off their locks. Sung- lasses, jeans, and t- shirts complete the rocker look. looks good in sunglasses. They make everyone ook cool,” commented Ms. Carmel Zimmer- man, teacher. At the cir- cle or in the streets, these optics will always be in style. “Tt’s all right to call us rockers,” stated Justin Blok. Rockers were the people who listened to heavy metal, and wore jeans and t-shirts. Rockers, like everyone else, showed a distinct style through their mu- sic, dance, and dress. Guess who? - Kim Thoreson presents the famed Guess? jacket. Many guys and girls can be seen wearing these popu- lar jackets around school.

The classes com- peted in Spirit Week halls and also in skits. “Spirit Week brings out the sprit in everyone. Spirit Week showes the freshman what high school is all about. Fun, class competitions, meating new people all strenghthen the stu- What a party! - Sophomores Cy- belle Kelly and Ja- nice Ma party at the Spirit Week assem- bly. The Sopho- mores’ theme this year was “Through the Holidays”. Look out for can- nibals - Freshnam Suzy Oram, Julie Long and Sopho- more Stephane Laub travel through the freshman hall. 14 Spirit Week Uridge. The Senior class won for best hall with the Ju- niors coming in a close second. The sophmores finished third, and last but not least the Fresh- man finished fourth. Each class decorated their hall according to their class themes which were: “Seniors get Star Struck’’, “Juniors go Around the World”’, “Freshman go Safari”. The classes’ skits were based on their theme and on the big game with Encinal. The Juniors nudged out the Seniors to take first place in the skits by a very small margin. The Sophmores again took third place and the Freshman rounded out the list with fourth.
