STUDENT LIFE DISTINCTION in diversity Memories of friendship At Alameda High School, diversity meant many different people doing many different things. The students served as the backbone of student life. The word in its extreme makes for inter- esting daily events that in turn formed the memorable 1986-1987 school year. In the first assembly, which was dedi- cated to student talent, we were given a preview of the various abilities of our classmates, including singing and danc- ing. Other students possessed unique tal- ents ranging from playing the harp to water-skiing barefoot. Various school groups performed their special talents: our sports teams excelled in a new league, our drama department produced theatrical works of art, clubs organized to reach their goals, the music and art departments practiced to surpass former progress, classes competed to win class competition and teachers worked to edu- cate students. All these aspects of AHS’ diversity in activity were sources of pride for those all included in the Hornet fam- ily. Perhaps the most important aspect of diversity at AHS had to do with those talents that cannot be classified or in- volved in competion. All of us have dif- ferent qualities—in our personalities, family, and the things that are important to us. It is these qualities that shine through to create that special Hornet uniqueness.
