Retiring this year is Mr. Chris Freeman, who has been a teacher at Alameda High since 1928. Mr. Freeman and his wife have lived in Alameda for 37 years and have two children, both graduates of Alameda High. Mr. Freeman is himself a graduate of Stanford Univer- sity, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. While at Stanford, he played on the varsity football squad and was named All-American guard. His experience was put to good use during his many years as AHS football coach prior to becoming an industrial arts teacher. Over the years, Mr. Freeman has frequently been in charge of constructing properties for backstage. Without his assistance, many of the fine productions which we have en- joyed would not have been possible. For his years of service and assistance, the Acorn staff now joins with the school in saying, ‘“Thanks.”’ MR. CHRIS FREEMAN Good Bye aud Good Luck Also retiring this year is Dr. John Peoples, who has lived and taught in Alameda since 1933. Prior to coming to Alameda, Dr. Peoples attended Pennsylvania State College, where he received a Bachelor of Arts degree. He then began his teaching career at Pennsylvania High School in Greensburg, Penn., where he taught courses in English, history and dramatics before coming to AHS. Besides teaching English and history here, Dr. Peoples found time to earn his Master of Arts and Doctor of Philosophy degrees from the University of California. He also was co-author of a world history textbook, Men and Nations, which is being used today at AHS. In 1962, in recognition of his achievements, the Acorn staff dedicated the yearbook to Dr. Peoples. This year’s staff joins with our predecessors in saluting Dr. Peoples for his years of service to the school. DR. JOHN PEOPLES
