Ju Our Need Counselors play a very important role at Alameda High School. They advise the students of three fresh- man, sophomore, junior, and senior advisories, besides teaching regular classes Mr. Bartley, the head counselor, acts as a super- visor over the other counselors, and takes charge of all special scholarships. Counselors are highly instrumental in shaping the high-school students’ future, and we are fortunate to have capable and efficient people to fill these positions MR. ROBERT BARTLEY Head Counselor MR. HAROLD EIFERT Assistant Superintendent Assistant Superintendent Responsibility for decisions regarding the Alameda Unified School District lies with Dr. Donald Roderick, superintendent of schools, and the Alameda Board of Education Dr. Roderick, who has served as superintendent since 1952, formerly taught English and social sciences at Alameda High. He has also been a part-time professor of education at San Francisco State and a lecturer at Stanford University As chief administrator, he presides over fhe Board of Education, which is responsible for adoption of curriculum improvements and changes, budget policies, and hiring practices in the school system He also acts as principal public spokesman for the district and board He is assisted by Mr. Harold Eifert and Mr. Charles Briscoe, assistant superintendents Alameda is one of two California communities which possess an appointed Board of Education Nominated by the mayor and appointed by the City Council for five-year terms, members may serve on the five-man board for an indefinite number of terms The board’s monthly meetings are open to the public.
