. Cioffi, busy at his desk. Without the able assistance of Mr. Cioffi, Dr. Snell, Mrs. Hoeksema, and Mr. Conner, the school would not be the same. This past fall, Alameda High received, with open arms, its new principal, Mr. Ralph Cioffi. The office of principal has many responsibilities; among these are attending meetings concerning the school, making an- nouncements at noon, and advising the bodies of the school on its decisions. The administration was without Mr. Cioffi for a four-month period due to his illness. During Mr. Cioffi’s absence, Dr. Snell had the added responsibility of being acting principal. He has the task of scheduling each student into his classes; he also sets up the school calendar. These tasks, along with checking the eligibility of student body candidates, are just a few of the responsibilities of Dr. Snell. If you read the Alameda Times Star, you have no doubt seen articles written by A.H.S. students. But, did you know that any article that goes into the paper is first checked by Mrs. Hoeksema? Besides this, she is also faculty advisor to the Girls’ Association, Women’s Board of Control, and the Courtesy Board. Despite these responsibilities, she always has time for a friend. This year, Mr. Conner took the newly-created office of Dean of Students. As “‘Dean’’, he not only handles the disciplinary problems, but he also advises the Men’‘s Board of Control, the Assembly Planning Committee, and the Ad Board. He also runs the student body elections and helps the officers plan the meetings. Mr. Cioffi and his three top aids run a tight ship and are always there to advise you. This year has been a most memorable experience in my more than thirty years of teaching for | have come to know the strong sense of friendship that has been traditionally associated with Alameda High School. The sparkling, sharp, buoyant, and creative students of today, backed by their fine dedicated teachers, assure us that the future of our community — and nation — will be left in strong hands. | have great faith in the ability of our youth to weigh the contributions of the past in the light of the present needs and come up with sensible solutions to future problems. May | offer my congratulations to all members of the 1965 Acorn staff for an outstanding publication and thank each person for his many hours of hard work. A special word of appreciation is due Paul Lacer and Deanna Demel, editor and copy editor, respec- tively; Jane Oliver, business manager; and Miss Judith Bristow and Miss Madge Holland, faculty advisor and business manager. Ralph W. Cioffi Principal “Che Caplam Mr. Cioffi—in a rare moment of inactivity.
