Yes, no matter what the appearance of things, our generation must believe that there yet exists a grand, all-pervading pattern, inscrutable though it may seem. We have ma tured in times which are unparalleled in the history of the world—times of disturbance, of turmoil, of insecurity, and of hate. Not only have we seen leaders rise and fall; we have seen entire governments flare briefly in nova-like splendor, only to drop swiftly into the depths of oblivion.
