Surprisingly, the docile professor of Philosophy at Harvard happens to be Ed Durham. The tennis courts are really being kept warm by the dazzling play of Helen Friddle rated the world's best woman player. J. P. Royal's fan mail gave evidence of his abilities as a romantic crooner. He is even better than Eddie Fisher. Bobby Wyrick is making his mark doing the chief engineering duties for Lockheed Aircraft on the new rocket to the moon. Kay Pugh's new, contemporary art gallery in Paris is a great success. lt's the first one with a snack bar built in, in order that Kay can eat between meals. She's still trying to gain weight. Upon turning the last page, l saw my name, but before I could glimpse what was written there, the wan light failed and as it did the entire scene grew dim and misty, then wavered and disappeared. So of my own future, I know nothing. The last passage of that strange book I'm sure must have read, You can only live your future one day at a time, so live it one day at a time, but live every day well. Prophet, Gladys Carter Class Poem O U R T A S K We, the Seniors, have taken but one step On the 'long road we must tread, Onward from these years which are past We faithfully go and seek our task. Alamance High we must leave behind To remain only in our hearts and minds, For ease and prosperity we will not ask, But we will find our task. Confusion and turmoil are on every hand, There are many mistakes to be made right, A world of darkness to change into light And this alone is our task. There is work to be done, and this we will do There is happiness to be had. With faith in ourselves, and trust in God We, the Seniors humbly go and accept our task. Poet Wilma Coble

Prophecy With a low, mournful groan, the heavy oaken door slowly swung open on its rusty hinges, revealing a scene of mystery. It was a dim, dusty chamber, oblong in shape with its farther-most reaches so clothed in dust and cobwebs that l could not distinguish what lay there. With the wan light that was available, I could see that the walls were lined with tremendous volumes of books, their titles obscure with dust. As I stood gazing about in wonderment and astonishment, an even more amazing and mysterious thing occurred. Suddenly, as if by magic, through a small opening at the top of the room, a shaft of sunlight streamed through and as though it were guided by some unknown presence focused on a particular volume. With strange magnetism I seemed drawn and almost compelled to remove the book and explore its contents. With shaking hand I wiped away the dust, and bold print jumped up at me, THE VOLUME OF THE FUTURE FOR THE CLASS OF 55. And within the covers I found that the lives of my classmates had been shaped by fate thus: Katherine Anderson is world-renowned for her research work on the Atomic Bomb, and her discoveries relating to the atom. Patsy Sharpe once considered a shy little soul is a tremendous success on her lecture tour through the U.S. and Europe. The subject of her lecture is Feminine Poise. Catherine Hackett, the gal with the gorgeous auburn hair, put that hair to work for her. She now models for all the shampoo ads. The dark, petite, efficient foreign ambassador to Italy is Irene Gorrell. She is a very successful diplomat. June Kivett's fame is steadily on the upward swing due to her tremendous feats in the fashion world as assistant to Christian Dior. All the beautiful coiffures that the movie queens are sporting are shaped to per- fection by the talented Betty Andrews who at present owns her own salon in Hollywood. Warren Whitt has done well in the political realm, and at present is serving his first term in the Senate. Stock market reports have it that Bill Allred as a prominent broker, is making millions on Wall Street. He is happily married to a famous New York society beauty. Lee Snider is really dazzling the sports world with his amazing feats on the basketball court with one of those professional teams. John May is getting praise from the critics on his superb performances as lead man in a Broadway play. Barbara King is doing a first rate job as a top executive at Columbia Broadcasting Co. in New York. That's Wilma Coble's by-line you read on all the big news scoops. She's top AP correspondent in New York. Martha Robinson's path led her to an archeologists field and her recent unearthings in Egypt are startling.

Last Will and Testament We, the Senior class of Alamance High School, in the year nineteen hundred and fifty-five, being of sound mind and strong body, having attained ample knowledge to graduate and take up the toil and hardships of what may come before us, do hereby set pen to this document. ARTICLE I TO THE FACULTY: FIRST: To our beloved principal, Mr. Wliiteley, we leave our thanks and appreciation for the past years of guidance. We also bequeath a genuine hand-made paddle auto- graphed by each member of the Senior Class. SECOND: To our English teacher and Senior Class Advisor, Miss jackson, we leave our love and gratitude for her patient understanding and leadership during our high school days. We also leave a dating two piece bathing suit so she may dazzle those tall, dark, and handsome bachelors in Hawaii. THIRD: To our science teacher and coach, Mr. Upstill, we leave a new formula, com- plete with instructions, for making hydrogen to replace the old one he used when he blew up the hydrogen burner. We hope the new formula makes hydrogen instead of a bomb. FOURTH: To our math and history teacher, Mr. Henry, we leave a tooth brush so he may keep that Liberace smile. We also leave him a new pair of chartreuse socks to replace the ones we so admired this past year. FIFTH: To our Home Economics teacher and junior class advisor, Mrs. Farrell, we leave our thanks for helping make our junior year a happy one. We also leave her a book on How to Make Money so she may continue to make other junior classes as successful as ours. SIXTH: To our business education teacher, Mrs. Hunt, we leave a ruler so she may be able to teach her next year's bookkeeping class to draw a straight line. ARTICLE II . We, the Seniors of Alamance School, have accumulated a few priceless articles throughout our 12 years in school, and wish to distribute them among the oncoming seniors. FIRST: June Kivett leaves one of her funniest jokes to jerry Montgomery. Jerry, we hope you can wait till after class to tell your jokes, june never could. She also leaves to Doug Smith the pin-ups that were left to her last year. Doug, june thought you'd find them more interesting than she did. SECOND: Lee Snider leaves a bottle of growing pills to Burnice Shoffner. Burnice, we hope they don't affect you the same way they did Lee. THIRD: Catherine Hackett leaves some of her red hair to Donnie Wray in case he loses some of his next year trying to be a senior. She also leaves one of her tall tales to Larry Kivett. Larry, if you ever get in trouble just use this for an excuse and we're sure you'll get into more trouble. ' FOURTH: Bobby Wyrick leaves his bus to Randy Johnson. He also leaves him a five- gallon can and a siphon hose for him to play with in the sand pile. Of course, Bobby never used them for anything else.
