Ketcham. tudenf Council HE Student Council is the executive branch of the Student Association and works as an effective liaison group between the students and faculty. The members conducted two charity drives, in September the combined Red Cross-Community Chest appeal, and in January the March of Dimes. HE main project of the Senior Band was raising money to purchase new uniforms. With this objective, the Band performed several concerts with donations accepted instead of admissions. The Bandsmen-About-Town provided music for many entertainments. The band members also went on trips to Buffalo and Rochester to hear the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and the Eastman Symphony Band. HE Akron Chapter, National Honor Society, was re-activated in February, 1955, by Mr. Allen and a Faculty Council consisting of Mr. Grover Bates, Mr. Ells- worth Brown, Mrs. Ellen Brusky, Mr. Richard Burau, Mr. M. R. Freson, and Mr. Frank Helwig. Anyone in the upper twenty-five percent of the Junior and Senior classes is eligible for membership. New members are selected from faculty rec- ommendations and on the basis of scholarship, leadership, service, and character. The purpose of the Honor Society is to create an enthusiasm for scholarship, to stimulate a desire to render service, to promote worthy leadership, and to encour- Q age the development of character in the students of Akron Central School.
