Volleyball was invented in 1895 by William G. Morgan in Holyoke, Massa- chusetts. It is one of the few sports in- vented that has extended around the world. The game was originally called Minonette, but was changed as players seemed to volley the ball back and forth. Six players make up a team- left, cen- ter and right forwards: left, center and right backs. There are no use of bats or sticks. The server must hit the ball with his fist or hand, but after that, you may use any part of the body. CCatching or holding the ball is a no-no!J The object of volleyball is to hit the ball back and forth over the net without letting it touch the floor in the team's own court. A player cannot hit the ball twice consecutively. Points are scored if the receiving team fails to return the serve. This happens when a player commits a foul. The serv- ing team then gets a point and contin- ues to serve until they fail. Neither team gets a point if the serving team fouls up. The other team then gets the ball. Each player on the team rotates clockwise and has a chance to serve. The scoring goes up to 15, but the winning team must win by 2 points.
