Disco made the most of the Big Beat , and the New Wave listened. But disco is getting a second wind. A few years ago, it was a revelation, now it's old faithful, an almost scientific combination of elegance and ecstasy. Michael Jackson, The S.O,S. Last year the Raiders were under the pressure of having a new and young coach. They started out the season early having long, weary practices in order to get the basic fundamentals down and the batting better than average. 'NN Wrestling has been offered by Ajo High School for three years now. This year's coaches were Head Coach- Rick Cue and Assistant Coach-.loe Colaccico. Wrestling is an individual sport as well as a team sport. but it is a sport which requires dedication, desire, and a lot of hard work. Some even feel that it is the most demanding of any High School interscholastic athletics. In terms of dedication and self-sacrifice nothing is com- parable. To prevent mismatching of opponents Wrestling has many different weight classifications. Therefore, wres- tlers also have to watch their weight constantly. Work- ing out, running an equivalent of a cross-country prac- tice, and not eating a lot of times can be really difficult. Whether thin or heavy, a lot of hard work and getting in shape is involved. This year Paul martinez, Chombie Olea, Gardo Olea, and Milton Avalos have had an outstanding year and have improved tremendously from last year. Chombie was the only wrestler last year who had the opportunity to go to state, but we certainly hope he and other wres- tlers will go again this year. We've had the most suc- cessful season in the short history of Ajo High School WrestIing said Coach Cue. Hopefully Aio High School had started a winning tradition that will stay with Ajo for many years to come. A - . 4' I 'I s 2 f We the Senior Class, looking back on our last twelve years of school, remember all of the good times and the times we choose to forget. There was that first day of school with the scary feeling of being all alone when Mother says good-bye and disappears through the door: the feeling of pride when we took home our first paper where we scribbled something that was supposed to be our name: then the feeling of elation and relief eight years later on eighth grade graduation night. Of course. our first day as a freshman seemed almost a repeat of the first day of school. The Big Rough Seniors humiliated us so badly we felt like crying for our mothers. then to top it off we couldn't find our rooms so we were late for class on our first day! And now we have come to our last year in High School, it isn't possible that our twelve years are coming to an end. The days have slipped by all too quickly. Confusion and happi- ness jump in and out of our minds not knowing exactly how we feel about this final year. But the most definite feeling we feel is that part of our life is almost over but the biggest most important and certainly the most frightening is just begin- ning. What fans didn't see were the countless hours of practice that it took for a single I5 minute performance. Each morning 32 sleepy people awoke at ex- tremly early hours to practice. Practice began at 7:05 in the morning and ended at 9:05. For an hour and ten minutes, the Band had to roll up their pants and march through the puddles of mud. This year the Band had decreased in size, but that has not decreased their spirit or moral. They still take pride and accomplish, exactly, if not, more of the skill they had in years passed when the Band was much larger. The Band was under the direction of Mr. Paul Cosand, who succeeded Mr. Ken Cheeseman. Mr. Cosand is a graduate of the U. of A., and has a degree in music. He came to Ajo from Gila Bend, where he previously taught the Band there. Mr. Cosand's reaction was that the Band wasn't big, but the sound and the talent made up for the lack of size. Besides playing for all of the home football games, the Band also performed at all pep rallies and assemblies. They also performed at the A.S.U. Band Day and received an outstanding grade. The Band also performed at the State Fair. After the parade, the Band enjoyed a fun filled day at the Fair. 84! BAND A - ,Q-, , s l 1 in ix! if Sal Santiago,Georgekligquivelflirlike Rau. Ricky SI, 64, 80, I37, I45 the beginning, when GOD created If the heavens and the earth he also fd created the first being. This being had the ability to see and record . moments in time: and so GOD namedqhim photographer. But, GOD forgot to give the photographer a brain. When GOD real- ized this he created a second being with a brain. and a mouth, so that he could help the photogra- pher. When the second being sawthe recorded images of the photographer he complained that none of his friends, or him were in them. When the photographer heard this he exclaimed, Oh Lord! You've created a staff member!!! two beings were constantly arguing I with one and other so, GOD decid- ed to create a third being to settle the first two down. GOD sat down at the planning table and began to create this 'new being. He have the new being powers over the others, power to settle fights and so on. GOD decided to name this being himself, he called this being: EDITOR: and the other two trembeled at this name. Everything worked out fine. but . . . It seems that when the others found out that the Editor would rarely argue over anything and when she did it was very quiet. Well the only logical thing happened. the fighting worsened. now decided to make an even more powerful being more mature and wiser in years and most importantly not afraid to voice his opinion. GOD also gave this being cer tain attributes that would allow him to survive the first three. These attributes were: a com manding posture, courage, senility. and of course complete and total idiocy. When GOD presented the new being to the others they stared with wonderment at the door to the work shop. Suddenly. something stirred in the door way, something that wore a conehead and Mick ey Mouse ears! As the others realized what was happening they sank to their knees in abject terror as they screamed, Oh No, an ADVISOR! the arguing was louder because ev eryone had developed a stubborness and wanted everything done their own way. Now this was getting to GOD: so he exclaimed OY VEY! l'VE HAD IT WITH THIS ARGUINGI YOU'VE GIVEN ME- EXCEDRIN HEADACHE if!! l'M GOING TO CREATE A BE ING THAT WILL KEEP YOU GUYS IN CHECK! GOD now created a being with that supreme powers the power to charge a fee for delays in production. a Representative. When GOD showed the Representative the other beings the Representative broke down crying and wailing Good Lord! lt's a Yearbook Staffll And now GOD stared in terror is . g Pztrhnnk 9,5-Piitff IHHH-H1 A time wore on GOD found that now X X .
