The 1958 Homecoming was filled with activities. Queen Jane Petersen and King Jerry
Carlson reigned over the festivities. The attendants to the Queen were Ellen Erickson,
Marjorie Peterson, Kay Cummings and Theresa Kauth. The attendants to the King were
Alvin Buss, LeRoy Boyd, Jere Heineman and Noel Bailey.

A short skit was presented before the coronation. Student Council President Ken Bro-
man presented awards for the Homecoming windows. The Junior Class received first place,
the Sophomores second and the Seniors third.
At 6:30 the Queen and her attendants rode to the bonfire. After the bonfire everyone
went 'to the game. The Student Council sponsored a dance with the music of Howie Hill
and his Band. Aitkin was defeated 13 to 0,

This years Junior Class play VE-'IlIEl'9d around two cousins, Kitty Drake and Adele Warren, who inherited a
dude ranrh at Cross Roads Canyon. Colorado. They are determined to put, the defunct ranrh on a paying
basis and Kitty finds in Callton Up de Grali, the local banker's son, the perfer-I way to serure a bank loan. To
entire guests, the girls named the ranvh "l,'l'21I1IUIl1 Dude Rana-li," wiliii-li brought the local sheriff on the scene
with false advertising 1-harges. A varied group of ranrh guests added spine and laughter to the gay comedy.
The schemes that Kitty vonm-or-red, with the relum-tant assistance of Carlton, bark fired and made for one vhuck-
ling situation after another among ii unique western setting.

'The band is an organization of which we are all very proud. It
is one of the more active groups in school. The band plays for foot-
ball and basketball games, pep fests, baccalaureate and commence-
ment besides participating in contests and giving concerts. Under
the very' able direction of Mr. Scfhuldt, the band, which is composed
mostly of underclassmen this year, has been worked up to top notch
level. The band council is the group that runs its affairs. The officers

Gobblers dropped the opener to St. Cloud Cathedral The Gobblers Iirst win was a 46-42 defeat over St. Cloud
Tech. Aitkin went on to lose several c-lose games to Crosby-Ironton and Wadena.
As the year progressed, Aitkin went on to win about half of the games they played. One startling sur-
prise was the Gobbler's rout' of Brainerd by the score of 61-25. The team showed good possibilities to finish
fairly high in the distrir-t beoause the majority of the remaining games was to be played on the home eourt.

WRESTLING
Aitkins matmen have done very well so far this year. VVith few
losses from the previous year the Gobblers have been able to take six
ot' the eight dual meets so far. Under the direction of their new c-oac-h,
John Freniling, the grapplers also took the Mid-State trophy. Noel Bailey
who last year took first in Region Six and yygnt to State. gp,-X-Pd as
t-aptain for the team.

The '58 Gobblei eindermen had their best year oi ret-ent history. To start the season Aitkin defeated C-I
in a dual meet by the score ol' 66-52. First platters were lboten, Britney, Petersen and Johnson. The set-ond
meet of the year was a triangular affair held at Brainerd with Brainerd, Aitkin and Little Falls.. Aitkin came out
on top again with 56.
.Xitkin took the Mid-State track trophy. Tile c-indernien went on to rapture the Central Six and the Distric-t
24 trophies also. The Gobblers took second in Region Six, following Moorhead. Doten and Rritney were the
only Gobblers who went on from the regional to the state meet.

Tue "A" Olieerlelders cheer at all games and they also have charge ot' the pep-fests during the
school year. This year the "A" Cheerleaders are three seniors: Ellen Erickson, Kathy Koenig and Margie
Peterson, and two juniors: Laura Anderson and Grachia Eggers. Also during football season Carol Root served
as a cheerleader.

The advisors for F. H. A. are Mrs. Zilverberg and Mrs. Foster. The purpose of F. H. A. is to build a better
home and community life for all. The girls work on various projects throughout the year to achieve this. Some
projects are: Baby Doll Dance, March of Dimes Talent Show, the spring style show and others.
