Boost Viking Pride Every Friday afternoon AHS students piled into the boys' gym for a pep rally. The gym was always loud, hot and full of spirit- ed Viking fans. The cheer- leaders did skits, cheered on the team, and boosted the spirit of the crowd. Every week each class competed for the spirit stick. One week a toilet paper wrap was held, an- other week KTUX 99 spirit cards were signed, and still another week the winner of the spirit stick was decided by the num- ber of people that partici- pated in the spirit days. Students ended their school day on Fridays full of school spirit and pride, and humming the Alma Mater. AHS pep rallies were one of the most meaningful events to stu- dents. lt didn't matter if a person was a member of the popular crowd or not. These were times for unity and spirit. They were also times for some wild and crazy stunts. lu- niors and seniors held up signs proclaiming their su- periority, while freshmen and sophomores looked on with amusement. Pep rallies united Vikings and sent them home with smiles on their faces. to Q' Don't Eat - Talk! Lunch was a time for talking with friends and goofing off. Whether a person brought a lunch or ate in the cafeteria, it was a time for visiting rather than eating. All the tables in the lunchroom were filled with gossiping stu- dents. After going to classes all morning, students were also provided with a well- deserved break from the monotony. lf a student ate in the cafeteria, all visiting had to be done while go- ing through the line be- cause time was short. The people who didn't eat in the cafeteria, stayed out- side in the courtyard and talked with their friends. Most of the time lunch was used as a study hall. Students either studied for afternoon tests or fin- ished an assignment that they hadn't completed the night before. Teach- ers often received lunchtime assignments, and students claimed that they received better grades on these rushed assignments. Students who didn't have an assign- ment to do or somewhere to go, were usually re- cruited to call out another student's vocabulary words. Lunch was used for many different things be- sides just eating. ARRON HENIGAN SPOONED gravy over his mashed potatoes in the lunchroom. STEPHEN POSEY AND Sam McCracken seemed thrilled to be eating in the cafeteria. YVETTE PAWLOW AND Cindy Stokes discussed their day while finishing up their lunch. Lunch 23
