All the tables in the lunchroom were filled with gossiping stu- dents. After going to classes all morning, students were also provided with a well- deserved break from the monotony. lf a student ate in the cafeteria, all visiting had to be done while go- ing through the line be- cause time was short. The people who didn't eat in the cafeteria, stayed out- side in the courtyard and talked with their friends. Most of the time lunch was used as a study hall. Students either studied for afternoon tests or fin- ished an assignment that they hadn't completed the night before. Teach- ers often received lunchtime assignments, and students claimed that they received better grades on these rushed assignments. Students who didn't have an assign- ment to do or somewhere to go, were usually re- cruited to call out another student's vocabulary words. Lunch was used for many different things be- sides just eating. ARRON HENIGAN SPOONED gravy over his mashed potatoes in the lunchroom. STEPHEN POSEY AND Sam McCracken seemed thrilled to be eating in the cafeteria. YVETTE PAWLOW AND Cindy Stokes discussed their day while finishing up their lunch. Lunch 23
