Basketball, Ccontinued 'xx A resume of the highlights of the season includes the first conference championship for the Bulldogs in four years Ainsworth finally came through against Springview and won the conference title by a score of 29 to 25 They reached the finals by downing Valentine and Atkinson Getting into the finals at the District Tournament was much more difficult than in the N The first contender, Crelgh ton had more fight than was expected and it wasn't until the fin al buzzer that the crowd was convinced of a Bulldog victory The finals came much easier and Ainsworth glided to a 38 to 27 vic tory over Neligh, winning the District Class B Championship for the second consecutive year The following week the team was in Lincoln along with a host of rootere from home In the first round Ainsworth drew Pawnee Citv with Gregg McBr1de's predictions giving the Indians a slight nod over the Bulldogs At the end of the first Quarter, Ainsworth trailed seven points at the half, one point but from then on Ainsworth walxed away with the game, winning 51 to 14 In the semi finals, Ainsworth was up against a highly favored Omaha boys and fell in defeat 4Q to 31 This climaxed one of the most successful basketball seasons A H S in the past years To mention the year, 1938, in re lation t the last statement, would cause much strifebetween the Clase A runners up of that year and the '49'ere Seven boys on this year's team were seniors and maybe pros pects of another championshin eam are dim but, ever underesti mate the underclassmen Next year we alumni will be expecting an equally fine record ...
