Bright Eyes also helped the coaches in football, was head coach in J. V. Basketball, teaches elementary classes in basketball. SUMMARY OF THE ’56 SEASON For the first time in a decade, Ahoskie High produced a football team that fell below the .500 mark in won-lost percentage. A ten-year school record now stands at 86 won, 19 lost, and 3 tied. Ahoskie outclassed its opponents in passing yardage, passing percentage, and punting average, while taking the short end in first downs and rushing yardage. In the ten games played by the Indians, they passed 79 times and completed 26, a percentage of 32.9, for 450 yards. The opposition was found taking to the air upon 52 occasions, whereas they completed 16 for a percentage of 30.8 and 281 yards gained. Ahoskie kickers got away 36 punts and averaged 30.3 yards per attempt, while their foes punted 30 times and only averaged 28.5 yards. The Ahoskie enemies almost doubled the Indians’ first downs by earning 117 to Ahoskie’s 60, as well as grinding out 2,383 yards to the tribe’s 1,556. Winning four games and losing six for the season, Head Coach Jack Young placed blame on lack of experience and " enough injuries to last us ten years.
