FOREWORD The Staff of the " Chief " is happy to have the privilege of presenting this, the l955- ' 56 edition, for your approval and pleasure. We have enjoyed the work incident to the prepara¬ tion of this yearbook, and we hope that the results of our com¬ bined efforts will be gratifying to all who are interested in this annual and the school which we hope it worthily represents. Using as our theme the slogan " We Grow at Ahoskie, " we have tried to picture as accurately and as graphically as pos¬ sible a school which presents many and varied aspects of growth in every field of worthwhile effort and endeavor. By your interest and encouragement you have helped your yearbook to grow and you have, we believe, also grown yourselves. mm r : ;?vS i’A ■ ; . ' V -v v-- r ’. DEDICATION The " Chief " for the school year 19S5- ' 56 has the unique distinction of a dual dedication to two members of our faculty—Mr. A. Woodrow Taylor, our principal, and Mr. Robert Brown, our band and chorus director;, Mr. Taylor during his term of office here has encouraged and pro¬ moted the growth and development of Ahoskie School and under bis wise and capable leadership our progress has been outstanding. We feel assured that under his guidance we shall continue to go forward with a program of expansion and ever-widening usefulness. Mr. Brown has shown himself to be a band leader of extraordinary ability, and the Ahoskie High School Band, thanks to his fine musicianship and his genius for organization, has attained an enviable reputation for its achievements among high school bands of North Carolina. To both these gentlemen in this, our dedication, we express our sincere thanks for difficult tasks superlatively well done. RUSSELL P.
