Part II: Whoever said, life is a play and we are the actors within it really knew what he was talking about. Our daily lives are highlighted by drama, by the feeling that we ' re putting on a show. We strive for a leading role on stage, though often our audition leaves us sitting in the crushed red velvet of the theater seats. We rehearse from infancy roles that we will perform as adults, yet after all the rehearsing, it ' s still the unrehearsed speeches and moments that are best. Throughout our life-play we are surrounded by a supporting cast of friends who whisper good luck backstage. Before going onstage, they turn us to the looking glass for honest appraisal and reflection. With their hands on our back, we are suddenly pushed onstage, where glaring lights and approval applauded form the audience surround us. After the show is over, the glitter is gone, true friends still crowd the dressing room doorway. In the stillness of the silent stage, we then realize that make-believe is real life, applause is success, the looking glass is reality, and friends are how we get by until the next audition. LIVE! FROM DECATUR. GA! What can we do about the afternoons that stretch endlessly ahead until supper time? Watching General Hospital with the gang is one remedy. More satisfying to our dormant muscles is a game of frisbee on the quad — or maybe a few volleys on the tennis courts. Then there are the half-hour discussions when we mount our soap boxes. Tab in hand, attempting to solve the world ' s problems. A jog around the hockey field with a couple of friends is also a great relief. The magic of these unplanned times is in their stolen moment quality; a brief respite, a chance to relax and put things back into perspective. Laughing among our friends we are able to laugh also at ourselves. PART III: TELE- VISION 30
