Scraps For Our Book FASHION IS JUST A MATTER OF HINDSIGHT Look forward to the fashions of the ' 80 ' s by looking back to the ' 50 ' s, the ' 40s. even the ' 20 ' s. This year, the school boy look is in — you know, the sort of clothes your father walked three miles in the snow to school with a hot potato in his hand to keep him warm with — its knickers, bermudas, tweeds, wools, vests, ties, argyle socks, loafers, and of course the paper boy hat (a must!) Towards the other end of the spectrum is the more feminine look: soft, pastel, expensive sweaters like your mom kept away in the attic and ruffled bucanneer blouses and flowing skirts. As always, the outdoorsy look is still chic with the ski vests, cowl necks, and boots — why do we dress as if we ' re going to climb Pikes Peak and yet we are only going to Tech! In formal wear, ladies dresses are created from silks, quianas, taffetas, and sashes with princess sleeves and empire wastes. Remember those little patent leathers you despised so much in first grade? Well, now they are very in, especially with a bow on the tip. ASC students will ALWAYS opt for the basic study — get up late — no clean clothes outfits of sweatshirts, T-shirts, and sweatpants. Looking back, Scotties can honestly say, I need to lose weight. Proposed RC 1203 states that all old gym uniforms should be strewn around the Quad and later burned. We ' re hoping to prove that as we women can no longer be suppressed athletically by wearing baggy bloomers. We expect track shoes, softall uniforms, Speedo suits, and basketball jerseys. I mean, look at how sporty we are. During our free time you ' ll not find us working complex calculus problems or crossword puzzles like Techies. Mo. instead we ' re on the courts, in the Quad, on the field, in the pool, at the Barre (ballet), and at the bar (I said good sports, didn ' t I?) Give us our freedom!
