SENIORS
if
Everyone looks forward to the time when he will finally become a
'dignifiedn Senior, but he often forgets the other duties that name im
plies For example, the Seniors hold undisputed title to The Busiest
Cla-s of 1946 47' Why? Let ue glance briefly at their class record
The first event on their calendar was to select their very able
officers They were as follows
President Stacey Biving
Vice President Don Klnkead
Secretary Treasurer Harmon Hardy
Reporter
Sponsor
Class Colors
Class Flower
Motto 'The Path to Honor Lies Open to All
Jack Wallace
Mrs Harold Dry
Blue and White
Pink carnation
Soon the Senior rings were selected and ordered The Seniors will
remember the day the rings finally arrived the mad trip to the post
office and the final 'trying em on for size ' Their choice was a good
one, as we notice several members of the other classes approve to the
point of wearing them
The record next shows the first social gathering of the class on
October 7 ln the high school building Games were played, contests
were held, and refreshments Cwhich they worked so hard to preparel
were enjoyed by all
The class elected Mary Matlock as their football queen candidate
By selling doughnuts, chances on an angel food cake, and by contribu
tions, the Seniors were not to be beaten Mary won the race' Harmon
Hardy, the football captain, and a Senior, took part in crowning the
Manv were exempt from semester tests, proving the Seniors worked
hard, not only in sports and extra curricula act1vities,but other things
es well

We the class of 191.7 or the Afton High school do hereby make and
declare this to be our last will and testament ln form and manner as
follows:
To the entire school we leave the example we have set as worthy
scholars and blameless students. Our record has been spotless and in
all the aims of our career we have done no deed, as a class, that we
need blush for.
To the JUNICR CLASS we bestow our richest treasures. Almost too
numerous to mention are these same treasures and when the lower class-
men hear the recital of rare legacies which fall to their possession,
we hardly expect them to bear up under the shock. Our Senior dignity,
our excelling wlt,our superlative brillancy and good looms, our charm-
ing manners, our favor with the teachers, our splendid grades and our
triumphant exit as the most popular class this school nas ever seen--
these are the rare treasures that we hand down to the coming Seniors.
But it would not be fair if we withheld other valuables and with
great sorrow of heart we pass them along, too. Our capacity for fun,
our ability to giggle, our good times, our friendship and our loyalty,

CLASS HISTORY
The Freshman Class of l943-44 enrolled with a total number of 49
students The great surprise of the year was that our first party
lasted longer than the thirty minute one we had the prevlous year
However, as Freshman we were quite successful with our 'stunt' f
imitating the school faculty and we won first prize in the stunt
night contest
When the roll call for the sophmorea of 1945 was called, the
number of students had greatly diminished However, we still
sufficient talent to present a very successful one act play entitled
Comin' Round The Mountain ' The usual three parties were also en
joved by each member
As Juniors we held our limit of three parties The Junior Play
'Hobgoblin Housen, was very successful, due to the efficient managemaw
of our sponsor, Miss Roseborough and the talented acting of the east
Those who were a member of the cast were R A Williams, Mary lat
lock, Dorethea Miller, John Butcher Bob Butcher, Don Kinkead, Bever
ly Phoenix, Lillian Johnson, Patricia Roberts, Harmon Hardy, Jim Coun
trymsn, and Marjorie Hood
The Junior Senior Banquet was a veritable success. The Candle
'kk 'll
light Theme was used and was quite impressive We remember the excel
lent food, the pretty girls, and the interesting speeches
On Septemb r 8, 1946 27 pupils had gained the right to call
ing the vacation we were happy to welcome Bertie Powell and Ervin
Ash from neighboring schools, and four returning veterans, Stacey
Bivins Lee Palmer, Jack Wallace and C L Nally A fel weeks after
the students were settled down to the familiar routine of school, the
'K
Senlors sponsored a 'Tacky Dey A Senior, Harmon Hardy, was crowned
'King of Tacky Day' A Senior girl Mary Matlock, was crowned Foot
ball Queen at an impressive ceremony upon the football field, A bou
quet of yellow chrysanthemums was presented her by the football squad
Later in the year, Mary Dean Nelly joined us We had our three par
ties, our Senior Dey, our one ect play and our three act play The

Although lt has never been publicly announced it is generally

Our uniforms conslsted of black sweaters and skirts and orange

The flrst game we attended was the second game of the season and

at tlmes our group was small, we always did our part at the games
On October 17 l9L6 a party was held the purpose of which was
to lhltlate the new comets One thing was required of the new mem

as members of the Pep Club They were requested to push a mothball
the length of the gym floor wlth their nose wltnout any help Each
wlth the ald of Mrs Kirk was the first to reach the goal
We traveled to Falrland to see our boys win a victory once agaln
Wher our cheer leader resigned, Dorothy Quandt was elected to take
her place She proved a very capable leader
Our last game at Grove, was attended with regret because we knew
the game was the last of a satisfactory season

The phnalty for not being tacky was to be drenched wlth water

the Queen to her classes and carry her books during the day
For the week following Tacky Day the Freshmen girls were hats
