'Y , 1- l'f1' ii V 4 . .l, i'T9s..,J AL 14.5 ' 1 BA D Everyone has a hidden desire to toot on an instrument, wear a uni- form, and march in the bland. During the first weeks of school, some of the students were able to partly realize this because with the help of Mr. de Lespinasse and their parents, about 56 members ordered different instruments. After the shiny instruments arrived, then came the head-splitting sque-aks and squawks, which by no means could be made pleasant without many hours of home and class practice. The entire band made their first appearance at the Christmas program in which they showed considerable progress. The pep band, made up of 25 members, made their first appearance at the New Plymouth game on February 26. They continued to appear at all the home games. This greatly increased the pep of the student body and assisted in increasing gate receipts at games. The band's first concert was held April 5. It was a great success. A considerable sum of money was made, which is to be used to buy uniforms for next year. On April 13, the band went to the Festival at Caldwell, Idaho. An enjoyable time was reported by all. The Adrian High School Band under the capable direction of Mr. de Lespinasse has made unusual progress for a first year group. The band has played at pep assemblies, and basket ball games and has been a con- tributing factor in improving school spirit and morale. With over 50 students returning to the band next year the future looks most cheerful for a high class band organization. A GAPELLA GHQ US President .......... ...... M r . de Lespinasse The A Capella Chorus was organized soon after school started in September with a large number attending. Our enrollment is now thirty- three. The Chorus sang some Christmas Carols at the afternoon Christmas program. sThis being our first appearance, it was, of course, a wonderful performance. After that 'we were heard at the following: The Senior Play, Junior Play, May Day Festival, Music Festival, Baccalaureate, Class Day and Commencement.

Officers elected include: Flora Prosser, president, Juanita Sipes, vice president: Louise Hinton, secretary and Louise Klingback, treasurer. The colors are silver, gold and blue which were worn on installation day. Our songs are, Silver, Gold and Blue, The Girl's League, and Honest and True. Plans call for a business meeting and program once each month. A committee appointed to draw up a constitution are still working on this important assignment. We also have a publicity scrap book and a lost and found department. At each meeting we had a charm program where some outside speaker gave us a talk about helpful hints in our every day life. Through various projects du1'lng the year we tried to laecp the school rooms neat and assisted the Llettermen's Club and Student Body in pro- moting and furthering worthwhile school projects. When the officers finish their te1'm they receive a small gold pin with G. L. on it. This ls a reward for the faithful attention and service con- tributed by them. GLU Adrian's first letternien club was organized on November 29, 1939 The following officers were elected: President, Claud Patterson, Vice President, Oliver Freely Secretary and Treasurer, Jim Millerg Advisor, Mr. Cook. The lettermen were instrumental in developing an appreciation of school property and in formulating constructive rules for caring for the school building and equipment. Violators of the rules were forcibly im- pressed of their violation by the group. The group has enjoyed unusual success in developing a sense of pride in the school building and in the proper care of school equipment. The group has received fine cooperation from the entire student body. The Adrian Lettermen Club is growing rapidly and in future years will probably be a better and more useful organization.
