During 1958 conference play, the Scorpion junior Varsity indicated that they will be most capable representatives of Camarillo High on the Varsity Gridiron in seasons to come. The final standings showed a record of two wins, two losses and one tie, but in overall points scored, it's Camarillo 83-opponents 64. Not one opponent could hold the Scorpions below two touchdowns as Co-Captains Dave Lepper and Cannonball Wellonen scored 17 touchdowns between them. The line, led by Fireplug Brundage, Gabby George Gill, Killer Kelton and Rapid Robert Elliott, opened the holes to make this possible. Little Doug Duncan was the brains behind the center that made this assemblage of brawn function with finesse. The team's worst losses of the year were not in the scoreboard, but in the injury list and on one can estimate the team's potential with QB Garnet Ohlrich Qbroken leg, first gamej, and Marty Medina ftorn knee ligaments, fifth gamej able to play out the season. The two best games of the season were against Fillmore 13-13 and Hart 19-0. The game against Fillmore will best be remembered because of the team's ability to come from behind. Down 7-0 at the half, they returned to the field and on the first play Dave Lepper broke loose for 70 yards against a defense bunched to stop the thrusts of a Cannonball. Hart was a continuation of the Fillmore second half except nothing could contain Dennis Wellonen as he romped straight up the center. Wally Villa brings down a Carp Warrior from behind with a shoestring tackle.
