An open road and a w1de road
That leads at last to the sea
Th1s IS the meanmg of summertune,
And the meanmg of l1fe, to me'
For I am weary of c1t1es
When the sunhght slants from the
And I thmk of an ocean Slllglllg
To the l1ttle slups on her breast
And I thlnk of a road that beckons
Beckons and lures and calls
And I thmk of the dlm horxzon
W hen the shadow of n1ght1me falls'
S 9
G1ve me the dust of the hlghway
And a breeze that k1sses my face
For oh I am t1red of hurrv
Of traff1c and market place'
Glve me a spr1ng by the ways1de
Gxve me a tree for shade
An open road and a wxde road
And a heart that 1S unafra1d'
G1ve me the courage for trampmg
The path tnat Wmds to the hllltop
After lt leaves each hollow
GIVE the glunpse of ocean
Blue as the gleam of tl uth
Glve me the urge to flnd a world
Before I have lost mx vouth'
Xn open road and a xx lde road
And somewhere the far Hung sea'
Th1s IS the meanmg of summertmne

Semor Class History
CHAPTER 1 In the h1story of the world a span of twelve years 1S but a gram of sand m the vast
desert of t1me, but to us, the class of '59', the last twelve years has represented a great and long
perxod of our hves
As all h1stor1ans must we w1ll begm at the beglnnlng In the fall of 1947, our group met for
the f1rst time The class numbered 12 boys and 12 glrls As we recall Mrs Jerald was our
f1rst grade teacher
As we progressed from grade to grade some of the or1g1nal group left and others Jomed our
QTOUP
We are espec1ally grateful and appreclatlve of our grade school teachers They were as fol
lows lst Mrs Jerald 2nd Mrs Thomas 3rd Mrs Krebs 4th Mrs V1lwock 5th, Mrs S1eg
warth 6th Mr Eastman 7th, Mrs N1elson and 8th Mr Ferguson
CHAPTER II There were 23 enrolled as Freshmen ln the 1955 56 school year Class off1cers
elected for the year were Pres1dent Roy Scherer Vlce Pres1dent Dav1d Tramm Secretary Nan
cy Mohorlc Representatwe Don Sherman Sgt at Arms She1la Stafford w1th Mr Nelson as our
Advlsor
Our class became an off1c1al part of Adna H1gh School after 1n1t1at1on We all agree It was one
of the most enjoyable events of our h1gh school careers Just to prove there were no hard feel1ngs
held over from the 1n1t1at1on we honored the Sophomores m the Spr1ng Wlfh the Frosh Return
CHAPTER III The mam event of our Sophomore year was the Freshmen 1n1t1at1on Because of
former d1ff1cuIt1es a dance was g1ven 1n the honor of The Freshmen 1nstead of the rough stuff
The Freshman gave us a return party 1n the Spr1ng
The class offlcers for the year were Pres1dent Dav1d Tramm Vxce Presxdent Bonn1e Rock
er Secretary She1la Stafford Representatlve Irene Sato and Sgt at Arms, Zella Orr Mr Nel
son gu1ded and advlsed our class throughout the year
CHAPTER IV Upperclassmen at last' Yea, w1th 22 members, we were next to the top w1th a full
calendar of events for our Jun1or year Our adv1sor was Mr Masson and our off1cers for the year
at Arms, Roy Scherer Representatwe, Don Sherman and Treasurer Irene Sato
W1th much ado and as a great success we presented our Jun1or Prom w1th 'Stardust as our
theme We decorated w1th starred crepe paper w1th a centered revolv1ng mlrrored ball blue
ce1l1ng made of cheesecloth and blue covered spotllghts We danced and congratulated ourselves
upon sponsorlng such a f1ne and successful dance and at 1nterm1ss1on we crowned the f1rst Queen
and Kmg for an Adna Jun1or Prom They were Queen Fre1da Douglas and Kmg Walt Marth
In the Spr1ng we presented our Jun1or Play No Boys Allowed The three act comedy was
dlrected by Mr Masson who proved h1mself a very capable dlrector Th1s dramat1c effort was
well recelved and It left us Wlth the feel1ng of selfsat1sfact1on on hav1ng turned 1n a Job well done
Our last act1v1ty for the year was decoratmg the aud1tor1um for baccalaureate and commence
ment
CHAPTER V September 2 found the class of '59' headed down the home stretch, m1ghty Sen1ors
of A H S As we embarked upon our Sen1or year we began to realxze how short four years of h1gh
school actually can be We were anxxous to complete our educatlon, but st1ll there was a sl1ght
reluctance to leave Adna Hxgh School
Class Offlcers were elected as follows Presldent, Jerry Nowlen V1ce Presldent Nancy Mo
hor1c Secretary Barb Back Treasurer She1la Stafford Sgt at Arms Frank Mason Represent

"The Form D1v1ne , a three act comedy was presented by our class on Nov 21 It was d1
rected by Mr Deshler It was labeled a success and was enjoyed by all
In the Spr1ng we d1d many educatlonal thlngs We journeyed to Weyerhaeuser and also Went on
our Sen1or Tr1p whlch everyone enjoyed
The two flnal events long looked forward to were Baccalaureate and Graduat1on whlch showed
we had at last reached the end of the cllmb At commencement, 24 students rece1ved d1plomas and
the class of 1959 became h1story Our class has entered 1nto the past of good old A H S but we
trust we w1ll be remembered Aga1n we say as we d1d when we were Freshman 'We face the future
excltedly and w1th confldence

The l9o8 football season as we all know was not too successful 1n the w1nner's column Even
though we had a small and 1nexpe1 lenced squad Wh1Ch was the ma1n thmg that hurt us th1s year the
loss does not mean the type of game played We were ahead at half tune 1n several games and
seemed to falte1 the second half Tlus I contrlbute to lnexperlence and the fact that we had sever
al 1n3ur1es to key personnel
We w1l1 of course m1ss the leadershlp and exper1ence of our senlors but w1th any luck at all
we can look fO1WX2llC1 to bmghter and bettel thmgs for the 1909 football season at Adna Let's a
suppo1t the team next year
