I A T5-'lr 0 A THE SENIOR CLASS -1 of - F1 IH ADELPH1 ACADEMY 1 Presents The 1957 ADELPHIC A NEW PRODUCTION IN FOUR ACTS i starring THE SENIOR CLASS I with - SUPPORTING CAST - ACADEMY THEATRE i 282 LAFAYETTE AVENUE Brooklyn 38, N. Y. .I I ,I I I A JI I A .L I I' f F3--I Four PRODUCER In thc language of the theater, the production known as "Secondary Education" will be closing at the end of the school year for the Class of 1957. The same cast will open again in new endeavors in September, although the actors will be in many places. These new productions, called "College," will be exacting and difficult, but they promise to be profitable runs. To the members of the Class of 1957: I should like to wish you success and happiness as you take on new roles in education. If you remem- ber that sincerity and hard work are essential for success in learning, as well as on the stage, your performances in the future should bring you prosperity and applause in full measure. EDWARD W. HATHAWAY DEDICATION Mr. John Stigi A cheerful smile, a pleasant word, and a friendly remark are typical of Mr. Stigi's personality. To you, Mr. Stigi, we, the Class of 1957, dedicate this yearbook as our "Oscar" for your invaluable direction during our performance on the Adelphi stage. We were always able to find you backstage for an additional bit of advice after the showg you helped train the actors and create the scenery. Slowly, the curtain closes after the long run of a most successful play, which you, Mr. Stigi, did much to make memorable. Five Fred V. Bruch We might have never learned our parts had it not been for you, Mr. Bruch! Your knowledge, leadership, and, above all, your patience in guid- ing us so wisely, have led us to this triumph. Isabel Corcoran Miss Corcoran, as a director, you contributed your experience and helpful ability. As a friend, you gave your kind, understanding, and friendly advice. We, the Class of 1957, take this oppor- tunity to thank you. iL Q X EJ ECTOR , YG-4142 6' at fr.ari..1f.. H. THEODORE BLATCHLEY FREDERICK V. BRUCH ISABEI. H. The curtain drops on the final act. How well we all remember rehearsing for one of the greatest moments of our lives: The day we first set foot in Adelphi Academy. As freshmen, and later, as sophomores and juniors, we all faced the same problems, learning through painstaking experience the role that must be played. But when the curtain opened in 1956, our eyes were glowing. We had passed the test. Nevertheless, as seniors, we found that a star's life isn't easy. There were College Boards to be conquered, and school tests-and more school tests. What have we gained from all our hard work? In these four years, we have delved into many subjects and taken part in many extra-curricular activities. In short, we have "grown up." Best of all, we have made friendships-friendships we are sure will be everlasting. The applause is now deafening, it assures us our performance was truly great. Our prize, the valued HOscar,,' four diplomasj, is about to be awarded. Up to now, this is the high point of our livesg only one thing remains to be done: to wish our fellow classmates-and those who will come after us--"the best of luck!" The plot was our four years at Adelphi Academy. On a balmy fall day the curtain opened, the first act began. The twenty-four members of the freshman class entered the gates of Adelphi. At first, bewildered by many things, with the assistance of upperclassmen and teachers who were interested in us as individuals, and who helped us to discover just who we were, we soon adjusted. Presently, we all were imbued with the spirit of belonging to Adelphi and participated in all activities. We loved our school even in the midst of our First terrifying finals-when we learned that we weren't quite as intelligent as we had thought. And the curtain closed on Act I .... Soon the curtains parted on Act II. The sophomores were in action! We had matured since our freshman year and realized our responsibilities. There were more of us on the honor roll that year, and our teachers thought we were a class with much ability. We knew we were not going to disappoint them. We gave our first big dance in December and appropriately entitled it "Far Away Placesf' fChapel looked like a paradise that nightly And-our final results that year were good enough to give us lasting faith in ourselves! Intermission again . . . time to look back upon our first two years-and think .... Then suddenly-Act III. Well, we were finally upper classmen. Many of us were heads of the publications by that time and were often seen on Chapel and Forum committees. College loomed-and we worked. But our hard work was fol- lowed by gratification for we had achieved satisfactory, highly satisfactory, results. Our Junior Boards were taken in May. What an experience! We began to think seriously about the college we wanted to attend, looking closely at ourselves as individuals-and keeping our fingers crossed. At last, the climax-Act IV. September '56 launched us on our senior year. Although we had achieved so eminent a status, we didn't feel particularly different. We were the leaders of the school, but still we didn't have any special password to enable us to obtain better grades. But at least we had learned to apply ourselves, and were pleased to find that knowledge could be very interesting. In January and March we conquered the dreaded College Boards. In the course of time, we were all accepted at college-the most important thing to us then. This play, however, does not end with the fourth act, it will go on for the rest of our lives, for Adelphi taught us many things. Now, as adults, we find our- selves not only concerned with our own happiness, but with sharing our happiness with others. Life, we have all decided, can be made genuinely rewarding, we all have certain goals which we are confident of attaining, And so the curtain falls-but the play continues . . . continues . . . continues. . . . Our play, the performance put on by the Class of '5.7, however, has just as far-reaching effects as the productions of the entire world of the theater. In 1953 we were just stagehands, a little like back- ground scenery. Now, in 1957, we are the stars. As stars, we gratefully acknowledge all the help rendered to us by our Stage Manager, Mr. Jerry Glad- stein, of Eastern Press, who cheerfully helped us through many dress rehearsals. Q.
