Adamson is a school made of weathered brick, time-worn wood, rain-stained
concrete, and pride. Through the years the building has changed and additions
have been made, adding to the rich heritage described in the school song:
"Ut Choo door Adamson, our hearts will ooor grateful he
Wth hohor and ylory croufhott throuyh all your history
221 Choa dear Blue and Whitt: wo plalyo our loyalty.

One of Adamsonis most outstanding
teachers, Mrs. Shafer received her B.A.
degree from S.M.U. She has also studied
at the University of Texas.
Mrs. Shafer has a sincere interest in
her subject, therefore students enjoy
being in her classes. Her interest in
science is shown through her deft han-
dling of the famous P.T.A., an amusing
'white mouse, and some of his rodent
friends.
Because she is a devoted teacher, a
true friend, and a loyal Leopard, the
OAK staff proudly and unanimously
dedicates the 1971 OAK to Mrs. Helen
Shafer.

OFFICER FRED CHANCE
Our law-enforcement othcers are another group we take for
granted. One in particular is Officer Fred Chance. whom most of
us have known for many years, Officer Chance patrols the Dallas
schools for our protection. He also takes much time to speak at
school assemblies in a direct effort to help us realize some ot' the
dangers around us and how we can avoid them, Here. we devote
our thanks to this man for his many years ot' service to our com-

Tradition . . . a spirit that grows within you from year

driving desire toibeat Sunset in anything, Mr. Forgeyfs Dr.
Pepper yell, the Blue-White Game.
And through traditions we grow in loyalty to our teams,
whether the chips are down or the winning streak is ours,
caring enough to uphold the standards of Adamson life,
we develop a loyalty to other students and clubs, a loyalty
that swells within us that last time we sing the Alma

"Suzy! Your
One day we will be left with only traces of '71.
But in those traces we will see both laughter and
tears. Laughter comes to us in many ways - a
careless smile, a joke told between classes, a con-
test won, fust being involved. We've found hap-
piness at Adamson - in friendships made and
goals achieved. But welve also felt the pain of
tears. To strive so hard, yet lose - there is much
disappointment, There is sadness in the loss of a
game, a performance going wrong, a friendship
destroyed. Weionly hope that one day we can
look back on these times and smile at our tears.
Laughing and weeping Q-. they're emotions
that make life worth living, and there are times
for both.

Love it's feelings, emotions. There are so
many types of love - love for your school, love for
a friend, and love for a lover. At Adamson weive
found the expressions of love - a first kiss . . . a
boy's senior ring . . . a mum . . . a letter jacket . . .
a day at the zoo . . . Sunday afternoon at the park
. . , walking each other to class . . . picnics at the
lake . . . kites in the Spring . . . trying so hard to
stay together. And through love we learn to tolerate.

President or not, he makes me sick.
We learn to face moments that seem unbearable -
teachers in a bad mood following rules you
don't really agree with . . . taking orders from some-
one your own age . . . following when yould rather
lead . . . sitting through classes when it's spring out-
side . . . seeing him talk and laugh with the new girl
in his life and knowing he's not yours anymore.
At Adamson we've learned so much - to toler-
ate, but even more, weive found time to love.

Freedom -- it's a part of life, Free in mindg in ideas. It's
having a sense of identity, wanting to be yourself It allows
us to learn, express, and change. There is freedom in body
- a freedom which allows us to create, accomplish, make
friends. We must be free in spirit - a spirit that releases
us and enables us to join with others in movement. Life is
being freeg allowing others to be free, also.

The junior Citizens' Traffic Commission, or "juicy tuicyj' has the main objective
of promoting safety in and around Adamson. Club members and other students
who participate in the programs sponsored by JCTC are made aware of the serious
need for safety in our every day lives. Along with sponsoring programs, 'ICTC goes
to Teen Court once a month to be jurors. JCTC is sponsored by Mrs. Compton.

Pan-Am is a club that likes to get together to have lim. Along with these times of joy that
they have, there are also times of sadness - like the time the Fearless French beat the Con-
quistadores for the first time on the basketball court. The Conquistadores didn,t let it get

The French Club, or Entre Nous, opens its membership
only to those students who have taken or are taking
French. It does not require its members to study French at
the Club meetings - in fact, the Fearless French have
done many exciting things this year. The high point ofthe
year, though, was the basketball victory over the Spanish
Club. Tu as de la chance!

the future. FTA also encourages students to get involved. It has participated at Fall Frolics and made Val-O'Grams for Valentine's

V For two years, the Echo has been on hand to give the Leopardmen sup-
port when they really needed it. ECHO is a prerequisite for Leopardettes
and Cheerleader candidates. lts members learn to be dependable and re-
sponsible for their actions. Under the direction of Mrs. Duke, it will con-
tinue to be an asset to Adamson and a supporter for the Leopardmen.

The United States Government established the ROTC pro-
gram to inform interested high school students about the
armed services. ROTC cadets are subject to exactly the same
treatment as the men who are actually in the military. This
enables the participating students to adjust to the real life in
our nationls military forces.
