THE FIRST SALIX ACADEMY Early in 1 904, the citizens of Salix organized the Salix Academy Association. The president of the association, Dr. F. J. Livingston, called a meeting of the members to promote the educational and popular culture of the community. During the meeting, it was proposed that they construct a building at the north end of the village of Salix. In 1 90 5, the building was begun and it was connpleted a year later. It contained four well ventilated recitation rooms, each of which were modernly equipped with school furniture. There was also a library containing 250 volumes. The second story of the building contained an auditorium with a seating capacity of 600. Adjoining the building was an athletic field, 2 1 2 acres large. The high school had a three year course. It was not until 1921 that it was changed to a four year course. sssssntssi sja !f:iii! Kx- . J SiSe2Sg}i S3SSSiC. £ ' iifi ixSjS£:ssisncic:i.
