Mr. Gerig prepares Debra Miller for the musical world. Musical and Artistic Abilities Are Encouraged This year Miss Mazelin joined A.C. as the elementary art teacher. With her help, the children in grades 1 -6 made puppets, snowmen mobiles, moccasins, rocking chair people, and sno w scenes. In high school, Mr. Kirchhofer helped his art students with their still life drawings, and their crafts. Some of their accomplishments included sculp¬ tures, paintings, drawing in perspec¬ tive and lettering. The music depart¬ ment was headed by Mr. Henkel and Mr. Gerig. At the first meeting it was decided to have a girls glee club and a choir. The glee club presented a variety of musical selections at the annual Win¬ ter Concert. Mr. Gerig prepared the choir for the Pops Concert with popular songs. Mr. Kirchhofer helps Lynnette Wilder develop her artistic abilities. 23

Cadet Teaching and Vocational Agriculture Becoming the teacher gave A.C. ' s ex¬ ploratory teachers a chance to see classroom problems from the teachers point of view. Working with young children tried the patience of seven sen¬ iors but their efforts were often re - warded with smiles and You look nice Today. In many cases their experi¬ ences served as a basic for career choices. Ag Boys learned new and better tech¬ niques in the field of farming. Films judging teams, and field trips added a variety of ways to help the boys under¬ stand agriculture. In their studies they worked on farm management, keeping accurate records, and studying parlia¬ mentary procedure. Connie High helps one of her students in learning how to pronounce a word. Home Economics Prepares Future Homemakers Do your souffles fall? Your upside down cakes turn right side up? Why don ' t you join A.C. ' s home Economic class? All the classes spent the first semester studying the hows and why ' s of home- making. The last semester was spent applying knowledge learned during the first semester. Freshman students studied foods and proper nutrition, while sophomores learned about the care and feeding of babies. Juniors tried to balance budgets, and manage a home. Seniors studied marriage and covered topics from dating to divorce. Students were allowed to choose the garment they wished to sew. The smell of cookies, fancy cakes, yeast and din¬ ner rolls, and complete dinners, floated through the halls of Central. Freshmen students rise and shine in the morning, after eating the breakfast which they prepared themselves. Sandy Oliver points out the basic points for keeping a clear complexion to Donna Heyerly and Paula Zimmer¬ man. 24
