of Democracy Interest Students With the help of Mr. Shoup and Mr. Mossburg, the Seniors now have a bet¬ ter idea of how the United States government operates. The govern¬ ment classes studied the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, powers of Congress, the court system, and how State gov¬ ernment is organized. The pros and cons of county, township, local, city, and village governments were dis¬ cussed and solutions to the problems of these governments were suggested. The government students suffered through tests, and tried to decipher blackboards. Current Events con¬ cerning the day ' s lesson were fully dis¬ cussed and solved, speeches on the day ' s lesson were given to the class, and income tax forms were explained. The Seniors discovered how farms are identified by townships, ranges, sec¬ tions, and quarter sections. All in all, the government students learned of the organization, operation, problems, and finance of the governments of the United States. Speeches were common occurrences in Mr. Shoup ' s government classes. Now, Donna, are you sure ranges run north and south ? 17

Lectures, General Elections and Problems This year at AC, Mr. Mossburg and Mr. Hilbert brought students closer to U.S. History, World History and cur¬ rent happenings. Slides and movies of historic happenings were discussed after being shown. Questions were asked and answered, and tests were suffered through. The different wars were compared and linked together -- how they began, how they were fought , how they ended, and the similarities and differences. Discussions were often held on the draft since most boys were interested in this topic. Mr. Hilbert tries intently to find the lost colony . U.S. History students focus their minds on the day ' s lesson with varying degrees of intentness. 16
