This Is Our Life, Class of 1959 One morning in early September of 1946, Mrs. Edmonds greeted twenty-five bashful and frightened kindergar- teners: Sylvia Aubin, Diane Avery, David Barney, Audrey Cramer, Rebecca Daly, Leonard Douglass, Leon Gor- dinier, Margaret Hazelwood, David Kellogg, William Kellogg, Franklin Kenyon, Frederick Knapp, Linda Knowl- ton, Edwin Miner, William Obrist, William Parks, Barbara Porter, Carl Ramsey, Patricia Robbins, Elsie Shaw, Janice Smith, David Sorensen, Mott Videtto and Kay Williams. We all survived that year of broken crayons, scattered blocks, and naps. During the next six years we increased our class roll with the arrival of Alton Lawrence, Patricia Prouty, Ralph Howard, Sharon Townsend, Linda Vout, Bonnie Buchanan, Barbara Cruzan, Francis Folino and Robert Taylor. Through the patient guidance of our grade teachers, Miss Scott, Mrs. Jerome, Mrs. Avery, Mrs. Jorgensen, Miss Wyman, and Mrs. Hall, we at last reached the doors of Junior High. We timidly approached our seventh grade homerooms with Mrs. Cramer and Mrs. Nevin as our homeroom teachers. Here we were joined by our Rodman friends, Joyce Whitford, and Patricia Clark. Having passed our seventh grade exams, we entered eighth grade. Mrs. Cramer and Mrs. Nevin were again with us. That year James Judson, Caroline Richards, Barbara Tiff, Walter Tyo, and Nancy Williams were welcomed. We finally passed our eighth grade regents, but it was a struggle. In our Freshman year, with our homeroom in the study hall, we organized ourselves with class officers as follows: President, Barbara Porter; Vice-President, Francis Folino; Secretary, Bonnie Buchanan; and Treasurer, Robert Taylor. Our advisors were Mrs. Bonney and Mr. Phillips. Our Student Council representatives were Audrey Cramer and Sharon Townsend. That year David Taylor, Patricia Tuboline and Wayne Chamberlain joined us. We presented a one-act play entitled Wilbur's Wild Night under the direction of Mrs. Bonney. Our Sophomore year found us in homerooms A and C. Here Miss Greene and Mrs. Richmond kept an eye on us. To lead us through that year we chose class officers; President, Joyce Whitford; Vice-President, Janice Smith; Secretary, Patricia Prouty; and Treasurer, William Kellogg. Our advisors, Miss Greene and Mr. Vincent had their hands full with our over-enthusiastic class. Audrey Cramer and Ralph Howard were our Student Council representatives. Norman Cisco was our newcomer. Pens were sold to enlarge our treasury. As our Junior year became a reality, we knew that we had a lot to accomplish. Our officers were: President, Ralph Howard; Vice-President Barbara Cruzan; Secretary, Audrey Cramer; and Treasurer, David Kellogg. Bonnie Buchanan and Barbara Porter represented us in Student Council. Donna Stafford and the Tracys, Gloria and Larry, increased our number. Mr. Ebeling and Mr. Vincent really had their work cut out for them with the many project we undertook . . . ordering our class rings, selling stationery, presenting our play, Elmer, and working on our newspaper, The Buzzer. On December 23, we sponsored the Christmas Ball with the music of Fred Adderly's Orchestra. Douglas Wilson and Berdetta Hulbert were chosen King and Queen of the Prom with “Fairyland Romance as the theme and Harry Spicer's Orchestra. Our picnic was held at Wescott's Beach as it had been in our first two high school years. As proud Seniors we chose the following leaders: President, Joyce Whitford; Vice-President, Barbara Porter; Secre tary, Patricia Prouty; and Treasurer, Ralph Howard. Mr. Ebeling and Mr. Vincent continued as our advisors. Bonnie Buchanan and David Taylor were Student Council representatives; Audrey Cramer and Sharon Townsend, alternates. Vernon Johnson, Thomas Roach, and Charlotte Shearman were our new classmates. Our first big project of the year was our Senior play, Our Town, directed by Mr. Ebeling. Despite the skepticism of every- one, including ourselves, it turned out to be a success. We were especially proud of the fact that nearly all of the class participated in this major event of our Senior year. Selling magazine subscriptions and selling refresh- ments at football and basketball games were our main methods of earning money. The Hourglass, undoubtedly, took the most time this year. We elected Barbara Porter and Ralph Howard as co-editors. As our Senior year draws to a close, we view graduation with mixed feelings of happiness and sadness. We realia that we will never be together again as a class, but we will be able to look back on many happy memories. Barbara Cruzan Rebecca Daly 26
