Class History This is Your Life, Class of '57 Your struggle with education had its humble beginning in the dear old kindergarten room under the guidance of your first teacher, Mrs. Edmonds. To you, Cynthia Carley, Cindy Ellsworth, Tom, Lou, Marilyn, Dick, Jean, Alicia, Claude, Gerry, John, Carolyn, Barbie Servis, Barb Slade. Barby Smith, Gary, Mary Ellen, Donna, and Pat, this first year is now only a jumbled memory of broken crayons, spilled paint boxes, and lost hair ribbons. Just as you began to understand that Mommy and Daddy can't fight all your battles, you were promoted to the first grade, where you were joined by Judie. Your next five years seemed to fly, and when you paused for a moment at the end of your sixth grade, where you could look back with unobstructed view, you saw that you had been much enriched, both in knowledge and in fellowship, for as well as having successfully completed your grammar school education, you had learn- ed how to make a friend and be one. Your class could also boast of two new members. Pete came to you in the third grade, and Bill joined your group in the sixth. At the beginning of Junior High, our tussle with learning took a new turn, and with two bright new faces from thehills of Rodman, Carol and Bev Thompson, as well as Don Moulton from Watertown, you took advantage of your new found freedom. Your industry was finally rewarded as you folded your grub- by fists around that precious document which signifies eight years of hard work, your Eighth Grade Regents Diploma. Four more long years to go , you said at the start of your Freshman year. How quickly they have sped, and you have accomplished only a portion of what you had intended. The addition of Herbie, Mary, Bev Bauder, Don Bibbins, George, Dale, Shirley, and Bob Peebles in this, your Freshman year, completed your class. You got off to somewhat less than a flying start, for you never even organized yourselves that year—no class officers, and few class projects. But when you became Sophomores, you gathered steam. You elected Pete as president, Don as vice president, Shirley as treasurer, and Barbie Servis as secretary. Your Halloween Teen-Town was a never-to-be-forgotten spectacle, and the Christ- mas entertainment was both inspiring and amusing to the whole high school. The next year, as Juniors, you were beginning to feel your importance. You immediately chose John to be class president; Bar- bie Servis, vice president; Barby Smith, secretary; and Carolyn, treasurer. And the class settled down to work. The Cliristmas Ball was a sight to behold! 1 It was this year, too, that the A.C.C.S. basketball team earned the honor of playing in the Syracuse War Memorial. Your class didn’t do it all, of course, but it surely helped. You all remember Elmer and the Lovebug , and the splendid job that was done on it. Maybe you were a little partial, but it seemed to you that no play was ever put over better. There were serious moments, too, for when you saw the class of '56 preparing for their BIG DAY, you realized that there was only one more year for you. As the Senior year began, it seemed unbelievable that you would have only a few short months to make count, and the hurry and scurry began. The Hourglass was your big project, but other things demanded your time and enthusiasm—the senior play, exams, college applications, and your final glory, Graduation Day. Your advisors this year were Mrs. Maltby, Mrs. Richmond, and Mr. Cooper. John was your president, Gerry your vice president, Barby Smith your secretary, and Mary Ellen your treasurer. As you walk out the doors of old A.C.C.S. into separate worlds, vastly different and perhaps still un- known, none of you go empty-handed. Under those graduation caps you have thirteen years of know- ledge stored away, friendships that may last a lifetime, and the confidence that you are capable of meeting life face to face in all the years yet to come. Perhaps you will never see some of these dear friends again but you can never forget the good ol‘ times you have had within the doors of A.C.C.S.
