This years Speech group was very active in contests and in introducing new ideas that had not been tried at A-C be- fore. One new group was the Readers Theater which performed Hansel and Gretel for which they were given a 1 rating in Districts and a II at State. The Readers Theater members were from left to right: Kevin Caltrider. Julie Irlmeier. Suzie Williams. Beth Larson, Dave Claussen, and Joanie Mowry. A-C Speech Show Their Stuff!!! The following people were members of this years Speech program and found that hard work and a lot of practice will pay off in fine ratings in contests: 1st Row: Scott Lewellen, Beth Larson. Top Left: This year. Bobby Wedemeyer took a mime act. The Little Boy In Church, to the State Speech contest. Bobby received a “I” rat- ing from all three judges that evaluated his performance. At the same contest, Bobby was declared Outstanding in the field of mime and was placed in the Top Ten in the State. Bottom Left: Michelle Staggs and Julie Irlmeier both performed at the State Speech contest and both received “I” ratings. Michelle received her “I” rating in the field of After Dinner Speaking with a performance she composed herself. Julie performed a Charles Dickens reading in the field of Prose, which is a combination of poetry and storytelling. Below Right: Also performing at the District Speech contest was a group that performed a One Act Play. This group included: Front Row: Peggy Gehling. Eddie Betts, and Kim Ocheltree. Back Row: Michelle Staggs and Scott Lewellen. The play that they performed was Childhood, for which they received a “III” rating. 25
