The theme for this year’s an- nual is “Memories.” The fond- est memory of the 1979 school year is the Bomber’s trip to the boy’s state basket- ball tournaments. The A-C boys were the class 1A run- ner-up winners, and the school brought home a sportsman- ship trophy. Memories there are all types of memories-but the best of all are the happy ones. Rem- ember-the A-C squad beating St. John’s Independence and Ackley-Geneva. Chuck Littler and Doug Schmeling making the all-toumamnet team. Think back to the boys run- ning a fast break, when Curt Jacobsen slam-dunked the ball and brought the fans to their feet. Also, remember the A-C fans in black and gold to represent the school, and the togetherness and loyalty of the fans to the Bombers. Try to recall the silence and suspense of the presentation of the sportsmanship award and that final game when we led Iowa City by 8 to 2. But, most of all remember that great group of A-C boys that made it all possible and the joy and excitement of playing at the “Big House.” But what would memories be without a few disappointments —those things that you just can’t put aside. Recall stand- ing in the long lines to get your next ticket ... and Kurt Cress turning his ankle and trying to play in the final game. Re- member the final loss of the season to Iowa City Regina, and the season coming to an end for the seniors. 3

For some there were mixed emotions of the tournament. Some were sad and some were happy don’t forget that Kurt Cress did score his final two points in the game against Iowa City Regina. And the Bombers did receive the runner-up trophy of the 1979 boy’s state basketball tournament. Upper left: Chuck Littler decides to go left rather than right against his A-G opponent. Lower left: A-C’s tough defense closes in on an A-G player. Above: A-G’s muscle did not slow down Doug Schtneling who shot over, underneath, around, in-between and through A-G’s defense ending up with a superb per- formance. a
