Twas the day before the b allgame When all through the school, Not a creature was working Not even a fool. The students were nestled All snug on a bus In hopes that St. John’s Would not defeat us. And coach in his blazer And 1 in my cap Had just worried our brains To keep everyone on top. When out in the hall There rose such a clatter, We leaped from our chair To see what was the matter. Away to the window 1 flew like a flash, Tore open the shutter and threw up the sash. The sun on the crest of the old, dirty snow Gave a look of last winter to objects below. When what to my wondering eye should appear But a basketball team and the coach full of cheer; With Shorty as the driver so lively and quick, I knew in a moment we'd be in the thick. He whistled and shouted and called them by name. Now Ho Ho, now Jake, Now Lundy and Duke, On Cress and Littler, On Fergie and Gus! To the back of the gym, To the length of the hall; Now hustle, out hustle, out hustle, out all!” As athletes before the big game must fly When they meet with a lough one. They never say die. So up to the hoops the athletes flew Until the score was one hundred and two!! And then, in a twinkling everyone knew The boys did their best Cause both towns came though. And 1 heard them exclaim As they drove out of sight, “What a victory we won in the fieldhouse that night!” -written before the Bombers made their trip to state Tammy Bates Terry Beattie Linda Bireline Jennifer Caltrider Darla Carstens Linda Chandler Eddie Chesnut .
