BYSHCA 1973 ADAIR-CASEY HIGH SCHOOL Dallas Dinkla and Debbie Cahail demonstrate that some people actually do work during their study halls. Styles change rapidly, as Carol S. models ABOVE, with her outfit from Up the Down Stair- case. Despite efforts of the cheerleaders to strengthen the morale of students, faculty and team, A-C suffered a heartbreaking Homecoming defeat to the Stuart-Menlo Cyclones. Once again this year, A-C held an all-school Christmas program, on December 22. The pro- gram featured both serious readings and humor- ous skits. The Swing Choirs sang Christmas carols, and Santa Claus and several helpers paid a visit. One of the humorous skits was Just A- round Christmas I'm As Good As I Can Be, per- formed by the I.A. Club. ABOVE, the cannibal, Kent Downing, chases missionary Tom Fagan in hopes of a tasty stew, while Mother, John Stover, watches. RIGHT, No, this isn't a mass riot, it's just a high school P.E. class playing '99'. FIRST ROW: Perry Leeper, John Reha, Todd Kirkpatrick, Phil Uhlman. n Coaches' comment on the 72-73 football season--Head Coach Hornung Our record of 3-6 is not an indication of the team. It was a season of pride and determination. Rome was not built in one day, and this is true of any good athletic program. I feel these young men have established a tradition of a quitter neve - wins and a winner never quits. Coach Monaghan I felt our record just as easily could have been 7-2 if we would have been able to take advantage of a few breaks. The outlook for next year is bright as we have quite a few players returning at the skill position. Coach Rose I enjoyed coaching this year's team more than any other year, because I was able to see some improvements from a bunch of boys who were not supposed to win any games according to some football predictors. Coach Beecher This season was one of ups and downs. At times we played like a championship club and then at other times we had lapses that cost us ballgames. CRUNCH “A day for toil, and hour for sports.” —Emerson UPPER LEFT-John Reha stops for the pause that refreshes. Our boys show their tough block- ing ability as Curt Lewellen crashes through the defense's line for extra yardage. 13 BACK ROW—Mr. Monaghan, Julie Anderson, Sherry Lundy, Diane Wedemeyer, Cindy Emgarten, Carol Sullins, Barb Stetzel, Denise Jacobsen, Jackie Krogh, Susan Rochholz, Mr. Beecher. She ran the 100 meters in 16.3, the 220's in 32.8 and teamed with Julie Anderson, Kristy Hoehns, and Joni Frettim in the shuttle hurdle relay that ran 1:10.2. Barb Stetzel also set a school record in the softball throw with a heave of 185'9 . THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF A-C Homecoming '72 once again brought many changes. The traditional practice of class decorated floats was abolished, Instead, each class de- corated two store windows—one in Adair, and one in Casey. The win- dows were judged on appearance, and fitting the theme of The Won- derful World of A-C. Winners were announced at the pep rallies on Friday, with the seniors' window at Oaks Clothing taking first in Adair, and the sophomores' window at the Beauty Boutique taking first in Casey. Homecoming activities were planned for the entire week. Monday, Sept. 25 featured a Kick-Off Assembly. Tuesday was declared Goofy Day, with students and teachers invited to wear goofy clothes combina- tions to school. Wednesday was Cartoon Day. Students came to school dressed as their favorite Walt Disney character. School Colors Day was held Thursday, with everyone dressing in black and gold. Friday was de- clared dress up day, with everyone dressing up in good clothes. At 8:30 a. m., on Thursday, elections were held for Homecoming King and Queen. Candidates were Deb Cahail, Kristy Hoehns, Connie Beer, Jane Wheatley, Debbie Fagan, Perry Leeper, John Reha, Todd Kirkpat- rick, Tom Fagan, and Dallas Dinkla. That evening, at 7:30, Debbie Cahail and Perry Leeper were crowned King and Queen. A bonfire pep rally was held in the parking lot at 8:15. 48 On September 9, 1972, A-C suffered a tragic defeat to S-M, with a score of 28-0. During halftime, the A-C Marching Band presented a marching routine. The only float, built by the Student Council and class officers represented the Disneyland castle. The Queen and candidates were carried around the track, followed by the FFA airplane, which had some dif- ficulty with a telephone pole. The King, Queen and candidates were introduced to the crowd, while the band played background music. The sophomore class decorated the gym, keeping in the theme of The Wonderful World of A-C. The Homecoming dance was held from 9:30 to 12:30 with music by the Fourth Estate. The dance climaxed a week that, despite the heartbreaking loss, was indeed memorable. 49 Jim Armstrong Steve Bireline Jay Buer Don Cali ail Ruth Carl Sharon Carnahan Cliff Carney Martha Cline Melodie Chesnut Leilani Christensen Galen Crozier Kenlyn Dickey Gary Dram an Linda Edging ton Steve Edgington Cindy E mg arte n Annette Ernst Joni Frettim Daryl Gettler Mark Gettler Margaret Grimes Kevin Hager Denise Hansen Marilyn Harl Mike Hay Donnell Howland Ricky Huss Bob Kading Brenda Krogh Danny Kuster Joey Leeper Jerry Lehman Debbie Lemke Cindy Lengel Kenneth Ludwig It gets tougher to use that restroom every day, RIGHT, If you tell her that I like her, Joey, do you think she'll go? 50 FRESHMEN ADJUST TO HIGH SCHOOL PACE TOP ABOVE, Quiet, artist at work. This year marked the second year for junior high athletics here at A-C. For the most part, once again, A-C's junior athletes were very successful. There was a large participation by the junior high, not only in sports, but also in music. This year a Junior High Swing Choir and girl's sextet was also organized, in addition to the chorus and band. In every area, 1973 proved a successful year for A-C's active junior high. 59 Glenda Anderson, sec. , Lonnie Christoffersen, pres. , and Jann Richter, v. pres. 11th grade class officers: Regina Fett, treas. , Kathy Uhlman, sec. , Arland Petersen, pres. , and Carol Draman, v. pres. sec. -treas. 10th grade class officers: Sherry Lundy, sec. , John Luhrs, v. pres. , and Brad Rumple, pres. 60 ADMINISTRATION FACULTY NEW FACES BRIGHTEN FACULTY Judy Acker-B.A. Univer- sity of Colorado. Many times we found that planning and utilizing our plans were often two entirely different things. The number 13 im- plies luck to many, but the 1972-73 BYSHCA staff was undaunted by this omen. Pressured by those ever present and often hard-to-meet deadlines, the BYSHCA staff proved that mind triumphs over matter. The sponsor complimented the diligent work of several—oops— ALL of the staff members. One of the obstacles which held back the staff was the involvement of the members in many other school activities. However, the staff combined all of their talents to put out a yearbook to illustrate the many worlds of A-C High School. Staff members with two or three years experience were able to assemble the yearbook by drawing upon past experience. The staff feels that the book has been upgraded from a once dull book to a book of better quality, which uses both art work and candid shots to add eye appeal. PICTURED BELOW are the staff members, Carol Draman, Jana Elgin, Kristy Hoehns, Cheryl Petersen, Joni Frettim, Charlie Davis, Donelle Howland, Steve Bireline, Miss Peterman, Bill Littler, John Reha, Christy Ruppert, Bob Abbott, and Susan Rochholz. 68 BACK ROW—Miss Acker, Karen Wall, Carolyn Eichor, Cheryl Petersen, Jackie Krogh, Glenda Anderson. Once again, this year, A-C's music department underwent a number of changes. The vocal department welcomed a new director, Miss Lana Minnick, who helped the chorus gain a new and much better sound than in the past several years. Fall, Christmas and spring concerts were presented, and, for the second time, the Stage Band also held a special concert of its own. This year's musical was So This Is Paris, and involved a much larger cast than that of the previous year, including most of the concert choir. For the first time in many years, A-C sent a number of small vocal groups to contests. Preparation for concerts, the musical, contests, and the Stage Band tour, (including the Swing Choir), in the spring kept A-C's musicians very busy. A-C MUSICIANS TUNE UP FOR ANOTHER YEAR ABOVE, the stage band adds a professional touch to their version of Woodchopper's Ball by using actions to the music. 73 SWING CHOIR BACK ROW—L.
