THE ANNUAL STAFF OF ADA HIGH SCHOOL PRESENTS WE 1974SENIORS.....................5 Deb Cotsamire, editor CLASSES....................25 Becky Montgomery, editor FACULTY AND ADMINISTRATION.............45 Laura Wilhelm, editor MUSIC......................65 Anna Crider, editor ACTIVITIES.................79 Bill Bischoff, editor ORGANIZATIONS..............95 Linda Bailey, editor SPORTS....................115 Vicki Gibson, editor ADVERTISEMENTS............135 Paula DaPore and Cathy Hower, editorsREACH THE TOP The theme "REACH THE TOP" was chosen this year by the Senior members of the Annual Staff. "WE" feel this year's theme expresses the ability in academics, music, and sports that Ada High School students have shown through the 1973-1974 school year. In academics we've had Seniors receive scholarships, we had an excellent Chemistry Bowl team, students have taken scholarship tests, and nineteen members were inducted into the National Honor Society. In music the choir has presented their ability through fine performances at their concerts, and they held special practices in the morning before school Many choir members received superior and excellent ratings in both voice and piano The band has also done an excellent job this year They received a I at District Band Contest and went on to State Band Contest to also receive a superior rating They have also presented many great concerts. The band was also fortunate to have a new building erected specially for them. Athletics have definitely proven the theme "REACH THE TOP". In sports we had championships in Cross Country, Football, and Track. Our Basketball and Baseball teams also had successful seasons The girls showed their ability in sports this year in basketball and track Both teams showed outstanding performances for their first year of competition. All in all, Ada can definitely say they did "REACH THE TOP" this year Not only in sports, music, and academics, but also through the different activities and hard-working organizations that went on during the year. "WE" the members of the Annual Staff hope this year's annual will help you the students remember how Ada did "REACH THE TOP" in the year 1973-1974. %Truth is like a beam of light that clarifies beautifies beckons 4SENIORS ii "P C I REACH THE TOP"THE FUTURE CHALLENGES US, ClassColors Light Blue and Dark Blue Class Flower. Pat Zimmer was elected by the football team to reign as queen. She was escorted by Roger Criblez and Ed Corle. Anna Crider, escorted by Steve Decker, was chosen by the Seniors for their attendant. The Juniors chose Cindy Wagner to be their attendant, and she was escorted by Sandy Hover. Cary Long escorted the Sophmore attendant, Tessa Hines. The Freshman attendant, Cigi Hoffman, was escorted by Ed Delp. The annual bonfire was held on Thursday, before the game with Perry on Friday. The Bulldogs beat the Commodores 64-0. The Homecoming dance was held the following evening in the M.P. room at the school. The large crowd was entertained by the sounds of the Ray Coleson Orchestra. 1973 81Spirit Week, unlike past years, was geared to support the team, with less emphasis on class competition. There were to be no themes chosen for the decorations or skits. Also, classes were judged on spirit at the game as well as at the pep rally. The Seniors won the Spirit Week cup by taking first in the skit and decoration categories. They also won second place in the spirit category. The Seniors have won the cup the last four years. The Juniors took first place in the spirit category, third in the decorations, and tied with the eighth grade for third place in the skit. The Sophomores placed second in the decorations and third in the spirit category. The week culminated with a Bulldog victory over Lincolnview, 76-72. WEEK FOR SENIORS!!!INTERCLASS ORATION - Paula Dornbusch, “Knowledge or Non- READING - Tesse Hines, "First Day at School;" Jeff sense;" Jim Bowden, "Energy Shortage; Fact or Martin, "The Selfish Giant;" Rise Ward, "The Waltz." Farce;" Laura Wilhelm, "A Highway, Not a Deadend " 84SHORT STORY - Nancy Bettinger, "My Chance;" Emily Darlington, "Footprints in Time;" Caroline Burton, "The Back of the Moon." ESSAY - Deb Cotsamire, "It's Worth a Million Dollars;" Bill Bischoff, "The Many Faced Machine," Beth Remsburg, "Return to Integrity." Interclass is perhaps the most important extra activity of all at Ada High School. It has been highly acclaimed by everyone coming into contact with it. Surprisingly though, it has not spread to the area schools. We, who live in Ada, should be proud that we have this unique program. Interclass was exceptionally good this year. The winners, Rise, Laura, Beth, and Emily, along with all the other contestants, have surely "Reached the Top!" 85'MILKU : f 1 L But Interclass is not just for the contestants. The entire classes of the top three grades can be involved in the skits and decorations. This year the Senior class worked together and designed some fantastically beautiful decorations. They won first prize for their efforts. The Junior class sent the audience into hysteria with their hilarious skit, and won the skit plaque for their talent. The Sophomores were by no means outdone by the other classes. They came through by winning the grand prize, the Interclass Cup. For entertainment, the couples were married by "Marryin' Sam," alias Mr. Markley. They even participated in some square and round dances. For simple offences such as tapping feet and crossing legs, a person could be arrested by the sheriff, alias Mr. Fox. Everyone left with happy memories and a marriage license! Dear Students: I can say for sure that this year's annual staff worked very hard to produce this year's annual Between the complications and all the fun times the staff had working together, "WE" did manage to get the annual put together for you, the students of A H .S. I would like to thank all of my section editors for doing a great job, and I thank our "night-working" photographers and our advisor Mr Robert Fox, for all their hard work. A special thanks goes to the students, administration, and the faculty who cooperated with the staff during the long picture days Cooperation is a big help, especially when pictures don't get taken as scheduled, and pictures have to be changed at the last minute But, through the complications we did get everything taken. I'm sure every student had some memory of the 1973-1974 school year, and the purpose of this year's annual was to bring these memories back through pictures and words. I hope this year's annual served its purpose for all the students of A.H.S. In conclusion, I would like to wish next year's editor and staff the best of luck on next year's annual, and I wish the students another successful year at Ada High School To the 1974 graduating class and the future graduating classes of A.H.S. I leave this poem of thought Graduation Time Time to say farewell to friends and happy, busy years. Time for fun and laughter, and maybe even tears. Time to gather memories to hold as souvenirs. And as the future's promise beams It's time to reach for higher dreams! Kay Andrew Sincerely, Sheryl Willeke editor 160
