f'NN L, Q55 mstoml On a brlght September day back 1U 1937, twenty-one llttle boys and glrls left the1r mothers at the front door of home to make the1r f1TSt lone Journey to school These twenty-one were Edward Boyenga, Lloyd Gardner, Charles Gr1fI1th, Franklln Kramer, Benny Lew1s, Duane Han1E, Joe Nelson, Terrance Shellard, Sheryl Sokollk, Mearl Stevens, Henry Wag ner, Patty Arndorfer, R1ta Kenlnger, Darlene Kothenbeutel, Norma Schach terle, Gall Schoeneman, Margaret Specht, Dorothy Ples, Ablgall Van Hel den, Harrlet Borchers, and Joan Krull In kindergarten our prlde and Joy was our llttle band Another lea ture was our rest perlods rlght before recess Some of us efen vent to sleep and slept through recess we also had our own store 1 Nl1Ch we learned how to GO the shopp1ng for our mothers When M15 B ck r f we needed punlshment, she would put us 1n the store room l w s after we found the llght swltchl to the convent and also Harxlet Borchers, Patty Arndorfer and Mearl Ste vens we galned Roxle Fossler, Larry McDowell and Robert P165 In f1PSt grade we had a dally lnspection 1n whlch clean teeth and hanker ch1efs were essentlals Our teacher thls year was M155 Ubben, who we found to be very handy wlth the ruler in more ways than one we reached second grade ln the mldst of puppet shows Miss Tool, who had a fear of mlce and a love for chlldren, was our teacher This year we lost Joan Krull but gained Eslel and Ferdlnand Kleln and Barry Metz ger We had a b1g party helping M185 Ubben and Mlss Tool celebrate their blrthdays In thlrd grade we gained Ruth Kaus and lost Barry Metzger, Eslel and Ferdinand Klein Thls year we had a turtle called WToby W He escaped the n1ght of the Junlor Senlor Banquet and we found hlm in the gym the next day Mlss Ph1ll1ps ev1dently found us very trylng, for at tlmes she would walk the floor blowlng her whistle and wearlng a very red faze In fourth grade, w1th MISS Waalkes as our teacher, we heard a great deal about her family, eipeclally about a certaln nephew who we were to meet ln nlnth grade This year we galned Ronald DeMav1s, but lost h1m agaln we also galned Edward Heltland and Velma Holcomb In flfth grade we again had Mlss Waalkes as a teacher we lost Dar lene Kothenbeutel and Edward Boyenga We galned Jerry'Pieters, Joanne Persons, Dorls Rogers, Delores and V1rg1n1a Swanson and Aletha Boor Due to the shortage of teachers, the fourth and flfth grades were putin a room together You may blame some of our scholastlc faults on the fact that we never learned to study and l1sten at the same tlme Bernard Boor, Delbert Drew, Marlene Eichmeler and Doris Burman Jolnted our works ln slxth grade. Charles Griff1th, Dor1s Rogers and Larry McDowell left us. Miss LaVerle Vokt was our instructor. The two sexes were beginning to be attracted to each other--love notes. we entered into Junior High with nineteen members and Miss Marschall as our teacher. we lost Edward Heitland, Benny Lewis, Robert Pies, ' ' . . v' s e e lelt ' . y E' OOKO In our journey to first grade, we lost Rita Keninger and Duane Hanig . . .
