Male Students Join the Cheerleader Squad Chants, cheers, mega-phones, and pom-poms all together make up the ex- citing elements of cheering. But there's another more serious side, that of dedication. Under the direction of Mrs. Jane Dotson and head cheerleader i i l i . Damon Constantine Mike Hebert l Rich Strysniewicz Kim Hoffpauir Celeste Broussard, the squad practiced long hours in preparation for camp. While attending camp at NSU, the cheerleading squad received all top honors along with three spirit sticks. They were also selected as one of six squads who competed for the highest honor, the Award of Excellence. Lynette Landry was also chosen to compete with five other girls in the category of All- American Cheerleader. In a daring, innovative move the squad allowed male students to join. The new anembers of the squad proved successful in boosting the spirit of the crow . 4 Paul Le NBUISU PeCl'lik Ram Mascot Gets ew Handsome Faee The mascot of a school plays a major role in generating the school's spirit. And this year's Ram, KIM HOFFPAUIR, was no exception. Throughout the year, she loyally supported the Rams by cheering at pep rallies and games. Kim was especially excited with the purchase of a new ram suit that replaced the old wooly ram. The new cooler suit extended the wearing time, thus the cheering time. The Ftam's new handsome face features large droopy eyes that simply ooze friendliness. The suit also sports huge leather hooves and fashionable curved horns. l s'J'..J'l ..2'l'IrJ Junior Varsity Cheerleaders The JV cheerleading squad fast became a group well known for enthusiasm both at AHS and elsewhere. While at- tending 'camp at NSU at the beginning of the season, they excelled tn every aspect of competition. The cheerleaders received many superior ratings and learned numerous new chants and cheers. The 'squad experienced a radical change in structure this year with the addition of male cheerleaders to aid in forming pyramids and performing dou- ble stunts. Two boys were chosen for this year's JV group. The squad participated in games, pep rallies and homecoming activities.
