Though the group is required to practice long hours under the direction of Mr. Gerald Waguespack, they are always filled with a sense of satisfaction that they have united to form a family intent on bringing honor to AHS. This year the band attended festivals at LaGrange, Morgan City, Acadiana, Sulphur, and Dallas and received all superior ratings. At the Marching Bands of America contest in Dallas, Texas, the band placed first in their division, receiving championship medallions, and placed fourth overall. Rusty Flichard was named Outstanding Drum Major of the competi- tion. In Sulphur the band was named Grand Cham- pion for the second consecutive year and the color guard received the Outstanding Auxiliary Award. There were thirty-three bands from a variety of states present at this event. Eleven band members represented AHS in the 1984 all-State Band. Five made the Symphonic Band and six made the Concert Band. Symphonic Band members were David Hernandez, Gary Edmondson, Julie Chaney, Paula Hosey, and Raymond Goodrich. Concert Band members were Debbie Baudoin, Monica Meza, Heath Broussard, Todd Blanchard, Kyle Dunn, and Matt Kerlin. BAND 159
