Unfortunately, the Irish only had the advantage of playing senior Sue Rashid for one year. Teamwork in practice and matches brought a new team together. Workouts proved to be harder in anticipation than in reality. After a year of gaining poise and experience and still having a good year, the Irish gals are looking forward to a very successful 1984 season. For the home stretchRing Day Juniors were initiated into the upper class on September 14, 1983, when Father Beebe blessed their class rings. The theme chosen by the Juniors to celebrate at St. Mary’s was "One in Christ” After Mass, Juniors celebrated their upperclassmenship at O’Leary’s Second Chance, where they danced all afternoon. Juniors will treasure their Class Rings always, not only because the day was a success, but also because the rings symbolizes high school and the Times of Our Hearts! Lisa beams during the ceremony.Juniors Carry It Off In StyleBarbara Roth, a 1957 Academy graduate Remembers what the Academy was like when she attended: Academy seniors did not have to wear uniforms during the last month of their Senior year. The girls had to walk to classes in single file and were able to talk in low voices only. There was no talking during lent. The Academy put on an operetta each spring with the girls (hair in pin curls) acting the male roles. There were no male teachers for the Academy girls. During October and May, a decade of the rosary was said over the loud speaker as you walked to your next class. The students of the Academy were required to take two years of Latin? four years were offered. The typing class used manual typewriters.SENIORS v Senior Student Senate George Me Neely — President Kelly Higgins — Vice President Rita Kenny — Parliamentarian Steve Kernan — Senator Kevin Faley — Senator Mary Williams — Senator Stephanie Novy — Senator Spalding's Senior Student Senate has a right to be proud of itself. During the summer before many of us were even thinking "school”, the Seniors were selling candy bars. Once school began many tedious hours were spent planning the homecoming float and dance. The Can Drive and Vice Versa were the next major events the Senate tackled. We should be very proud of the time and effort our Senior leaders put into our Senior Year. Many compliments have been received by the school concerning the program. Every Tuesday and Thursday over the year, Seniors have gone "into the Field” to assorted agencies, hospitals, grade schools and day care centers, to show the community that Spalding cares. Some of the services performed by Sociology students include, helping teachers, tutoring Crippled Children and aiding the mentally retarded. The elderly are visited at certain locations. The newest agency to receive Spalding Seniors’ help is the Crisis Nursery Center’s. Miss O’Flaherty’s hard work and outgoing attitude is instrumental to the Sociology program and the feeling of self-accomplishment that all the students experience in their weekly assignments. Throughout our lives we will have many exciting moments, but one of the most special honors of life is to be a Senior. In September it was so much fun to be the Upperclassof the Upperdass. On May 18 we walked together for the last time. There is probably not one person who didn’t feel some sadness at leaving. but if it were possible would we do it again? No, because when we remember our memories they were only meant for the moment they were shared. CONGRA TULA CLASS OF 84 J1203 N.E.
